The Playbook: Same As It Ever Was

Over at The Corner, Michael Ledeen writes the following, subtle title included:
WHY THE IRANIANS HATE THE MULLAHS

From an email this morning:

What has angered the people even more are the claims by the Mahabad governor who alleged the scar running from (murdered Kurdish activist Shwane Ghaderi)’s abdomen up to his chest, shown in the photos of his mutilated body, was a result of the autopsy carried out on Shwane. Yet a video of a soldier who witnessed Shwane's murder and torture is circulating amongst the Kurdish population in which the witness states Shwane was cut up while still alive and the Islamic state security forces were even extinguishing their cigarettes in Shwane's wounds as they were cutting him up.
Ah, yes. The return of the "e-mail from one of my contacts inside the country about how the average citizen is ready to take up arms in revolution." Remind you of the playbook from anything in the recent past?

Utterly transparent, bordering on shameful.

Anyone who thought that the new National Intelligence Estimate on Iran's nuclear capability might persuade the Ledeen crowd to chill out---or at least try something different for even a day---was badly mistaken.

Michael, what are your contacts in Egypt telling you these days? After all, Mubarak just "hit" the campaign trail---quite literally. Read all about it here.

Particularly pathetic given the number of troops just killed in Iraq.

Yes, the Sharon gov't would love for the U.S. to move against Iran next. And, of course, Ledeen and company begins the dissemination of the talking points. "Begins" is not really accurate, as this has been part of an long standing, orchestrated P.R. campaign of the Israeli gov’t.

I also, fully concur.

That's the real concern here folks. When Joe Sixpack wakes up to the Jewish/Israeli machinations over the past 50 years, it's Holocaust time all over again. And every day we're stuck in this quagmire is one day closer to that hell. God help all of us...

Thirdeye, you state “it's Holocaust time all over again.” What are you talking about? The original post that we are commenting on, basically states the fact that Ledeen and company are, in many respects, a mouthpiece for the Sharon gov’t. Especially, when it comes to “information” from their “sources” about conditions/capabilities, etc. inside Iraq, Iran, wherever. I do not think that writing about this, is going to make “Joe Six-pack wake up to the Jewish/Israeli machinations over the past 50 years”. I doubt that most “Joe Six-packs” care at all about the Ledeen cabal. (They should care, but that’s another topic). The point is, another holocaust is not going to come about because someone writes about how Israel pulls out all the stops, in order to influence U.S. foreign policy. If the Jonathan Pollard spy case didn’t make Joe Six-pack start another holocaust, then discussing/exposing the Ledeen/”Weekly Standard” deceptions over Iraq/Iran is not going to. More to the point, its important to chronicle the history and motives behind the Ledeen group, in order to counter the Sharon gov’t attempt at influence. It always amazes me that this non-stop lobbying campaign by Israel is rarely discussed by MSM. Or maybe it’s just me; and actually everyone is very aware of it, but they just don’t care or think it’s important.

No, Joe Sixpack doesn't really notice how Jews stir up trouble until it starts hitting him in the head. Every day more body bags come home. We're no closer than to pulling out of Iraq. As time wears on and things get worse, that "tipping" point we all keep talking about will come.

Most here think the tipping point is that we'll dump the Republicans and put in the Democrats. But they can't do anything either. So the real tipping point comes when Joe Sixpack realizes we're hopelessly screwed and starts looking around for someone else to blame.

Look, this isn't new. Just read up on the years of frustration in Europe leading up to Hitler. Jews would stir up trouble, then disappear into the night. Josef Sechspack would look around and wonder why the German government was failing him. Then came the tipping point and Germans, real or imagined, were sick and tired of the Jewish machination and took the actions they did.

Folks are deluding themselves if they think it can't happen again.

are you advocating a new Holocaust, or warning against it? Sounds to me like the former.

scary...

from a secular Jewish Democrat who was 100% against the war from day 1, this is where I draw the line. Don't blame the Jews for
Bush/Cheney lies and perfidy. Do you think anyone who really runs the country really gives a shit about the Jews? Does Rupert Murdoch?
What about Halliburton?

Yeah there are some Jewish neocons. Also some of the most forceful critics of the war. Hersh, Blumenthal...the list goes on. Leave the Jews out
of this one.

The neocons like Ledeen must really miss William Safire. Someday, I'm going to count how many columns he wrote after 9/11 about Mohammed Atta in Prague and the poor defenseless Kurds ready to take up arms against Saddam.

My all-time favorite Safire line:

9/24/2001 - "But Iraqi scientists today working feverishly in hidden biological laboratories and underground nuclear facilities would, if undisturbed, enable the hate-driven, power-crazed Saddam to kill millions. That capability would transform him from a boxed-in bully into a rampant world power."

Warning, yes, absolutely. We Americans have been very lucky because, so far, the recurring persecution of Jews has not made it to these shores. But there is a direct connection from Rome through the Spanish Inquisition to l'affaire Dreyfus to Hitler. Non-Jews are attracted and repelled by the Jewish race concurrently. It blows up with depressing regularity.

U.S. support for Israel in the face of growing Muslim anger is ripe for this sort of boil over. And it's going to take insular Americans by surprise how quickly and terribly this paradigm shift takes place.

I, for one, won't stick around for it and I'm not even Jewish.

Yes, what IS Ledeen saying on Egypt? Anything? Or is Mubarak our "ally" and thus off limits?

It's not "Jews" who're causing the problem. It's Israelis, Likudniks in particular. Saying that Jews are causing the problems is like saying Americans wanted to invade Iraq before 9/11.

Tayefeth-

I have often told people "as soon as you use the word they or them, you're as guilty as those you accuse", but I don't think I ever made the point as well as you did above.

You are absolutely correct. GREAT point.

Anyone who knows Anything (whatever that means) says that regime change, or the attempt at it, in Iran would only strengthen the regime.

If you read Reza Aslan's book on Islam, he argues that our anti-Iranian Revolution, to prop up that Shah, actually derailed any progress in the revolution.

Fortunately, or not, we don't have the military capability, as presently constituted (read: without a draft) to attack Iran. They know this.

I skim a lot of blogs, and so far yours is in the Top 3 of my list of favorites. I'm going to dive in and try my hand at it, so wish me luck.

I've got a site you might be interested in (mine is about acne ) I know, it sounds strange, but it's like anything, once you learn more about it, it's pretty cool. It's mostly about acne related articles and subjects.
