The Bum's Rush

In case you missed it, President Bush continues to come clean on exactly what our troops are dying for in Iraq. From his "interview" with Rush Limbaugh:
I am deeply concerned about a country, the United States, leaving the Middle East. I am worried that rival forms of extremists will battle for power, obviously creating incredible damage if they do so; that they will topple modern governments, that they will be in a position to use oil as a tool to blackmail the West. People say, "What do you mean by that?" I say, "If they control oil resources, then they pull oil off the market in order to run the price up, and they will do so unless we abandon Israel, for example, or unless we abandon allies.
Oil and Israel. That wouldn't have gone over too well in Colin Powell's pre-war presentation to the U.N., would it?

Gee, that makes my "No Blood For Oil" button that I started wearing back in Jan 2003 seem not so stupid and naive, doesn't it?

If they had to abandon Israel for the oil, they'd do it in a NY minute. So, SF, your "button" holds.

Well, at least it's kind of honest. That's a bit of a shock coming from this administration.

Um, you mean like OPEC does now? Jeez, it always amuses me when these guys talk about the oil market as though it weren't controlled by a monopolistic cartel.

So, did the idea come from Cheney's secret energy meetings?

If it comes down to a choice between oil and Israel, get ready for gas lines. Just like the gas lines of 1973/4, a consequence of our aid to Israel in the Yom Kippur war.

You guys are dead wrong. The US and the Christians are trying to stir up total chaos in the middle east so, in their words, "The US will have no choice but to nuke the savages to save us" (or some stupid sloganism like that). They NUKE the populations, the US soldiers will secure the oil fields (and get irradiated and die many years later of some mysterious illness that can't be linked to radioactivity. and then the US controls the oil while the dead zones where the populations used to be are barren and dangerous.

Grand plan. Watch it happen.
