And Under The Category Of "Huh?"

Over at The Corner, Rachel Friedman recounts Monday's panel discussion at AIPAC between Richard Perle and Rep. Jane Harman:
The audience also liked Perle’s statement that he would hope "if justification for military action developed in Iran,” the United States “wouldn’t expect little Israel to do our job.” He received more applause when he followed that up with, “If Iran is on the verge of a nuclear weapon, we will have no choice but to take decisive action."

The same crowd erupted into chuckles when Harman said the administration’s short-term goal with regard to Iran should be to set a firm deadline for action by the U.N. Security Council. Perle agreed that tough economic sanctions could be effective, especially if combined with support for Iran’s democratic opposition. But, he said, we should ask “what could the U.N. do, and then what would it do?”

Much of what Harman had to say was well received, but interestingly enough it was Perle who managed to get the audience fired up.
Richard Perle getting a favorable audience reaction at a pro-Israeli lobbying firm for advocating U.S. military action against Iran? Gee, there's a real shocker.

The fact that apparently he has not been utterly discredited at this point is what's really interesting. But I guess if times get too tough, Perle can always tap his heels together three times and say "there's no place like AIPAC." Right?

Oh, and did time mercifully run out on the panel discussion before someone brought up an uncomfortable subject like Larry Franklin? Enquiring minds....

For more Perle antics in a less friendly setting, listen to his 4/6/05 testimony on Iraq to the House Armed Services Committee:

Better yet, listen to Wes Clark's testimony. :)

Perle is a self-dealing Israel-first TRAITOR. He should be arrested and put in a cell with Jonathan Pollard.

As someone who is not aligned with most things that Pat Buchannan says, it was of interest a while ago to read his discrediting of Perle's book "An End to Evil: How to Win the War on Terror".

This quote still rings true today:
"They want Bush to expand the war, broaden the theater of operations, multiply our enemies, and ignore our allies. If Bush should adopt this strategy, it would be America and Israel against the Arab and Islamic world with Europe neutral and almost all of Asia rooting for our humiliation."

Amazing really.
