We'll find out if the allegations are true, but for now I think the main value of this story is seeing 1) how easily "it" happens here, and how unsurprising it is when it does, and 2) the perfunctory and pro forma expressions of disapproval (has the term "regrettable excess" been used yet?) from those who traffic in rage and are institutionally dependent on it, especially the culture-based type. I'd love to find out which cable/radio outlets he's been tuned to during the past week.

Witness the power of the media. How many bearded robed men have committed acts of terrorism in the US? Personally, I can't think of any. So where does this man's fear come from? It comes from the massive propaganda outfit known as the popular media.
I have heard it said that one difference between the US and the former Soviet Union is that in the USSR the people recognized the propaganda for what it was. In the US people think it's news. At this point, it almost doesn't matter which channel you watch, or what paper you read. They are all full of manipulation and fear.
We all know it's only going to get worse. The media won't let go of "terrorism" regardless of the fact that it is almost non-existent in the US. It's amazing how afraid people can be of nothing. But it's understandable when they watch TV news and think they are getting the truth.
Oh great. Starving and batshit crazy. Can't wait.

Those who traffic in rage don't find this story outrageous. Extremism in the defense of virtue is no vice, remember? They believe the marine's motives were pure, ergo he simply made a mistake, not committed a heinous act of violence on an innocent man which is the way most of us see this.
