The Ketchup Austerity

Where's a dour Bavarian bureaucrat when you need one?

In Bavaria...the state government made gluttony a criminal offence. Anyone seen eating in a manner likely to cause the hungry to riot could be fined 100,000 marks.

The linked article is interesting re: Warren Buffett. Ferguson's book makes it clear that the Buffett equivalents in Germany in the early 1920's benefited from and were very much in favor of massive money printing. Would Buffett and his peers today also benefit from that type of extreme scenario?

ALOHA!!

Yes, above all else DO NOT get those hungry citizens rioting!! What we need is RIOT INSURANCE ...

We now have all sorts of political promises(riot insurance) in America. The US Treasury reports many line items of nothing but riot insurance for WE THE PEOPLE so that we "feel" satiated and secure. After all if citizens riot then chances are those two political parties that have monopolized political power in America for 100 plus years would be out on the streets with the rest of us.

In America we now have, as of March 2010, 40.5 million Americans who require government aid through SNAP in order to eat. That is about 1 in 7.6 Americans who cannot afford to eat. Here in Hawaii on the Big Island we have 1 in 5 who cannot afford to eat. Odd that in many rural areas, where the food is, there seems to be less who can afford to eat.

Way back in the 1960s when LBJ promised to take care of us all in the GREAT SOCIETY, from cradle to grave, Washington DC said they would eradicate poverty, yet here we are some 50 years later and it is worse than it was in the 1960s. Bernanke and Paulson have no patent on "failure".

About the only politician who did not lie was "Tricky" Dick Nixon who said back in 1971 ... "We are all Keynesians now!" Accordingly on Wednesday, July 28th the US Treasury reported withdrawals(outlays) of $839.4BIL USD in a 20 working day time period, for the month of July. That's more than a $700BIL TARP in 20 days. What's important to note is that there has been an ongoing "Stimulus" since 1971, its called government "Spending-Gone-Wild". Your only concern is where you are standing in the long line of "handouts"? Are you at the front of the line like the bankers and defense contractors or are you at the back of the line with the rest of the law abiding Middle Class?

Without government contracts and welfare the Fortune 500 would be the Fortune 5 ... Call it PRICE FIXING 101!!
