Non-Refundable Tickets, Apparently

Last summer, the town council in Telluride, Colorado voted to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney. The Denver Post on the reaction at the time:
Moonbats. Lunatics. Boobs. Bong smokers. Left-bots.

Those insults and more are being heaped on the populace of Telluride after the Telluride Town Council became the first in Colorado to vote for an ordinance to impeach President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

The council hasn't even approved the symbolic measure on second reading, but that hasn't slowed a furious flurry of e-mails to the town and its newspapers and the cancellation of Telluride vacations by those who have no desire to schuss through politically tinged powder or share high-altitude air with "loony liberals."

Texas and Florida Republicans...have sent the most e-mails...They have canceled a 175-person ski-club visit. One threatened to sell his Telluride vacation home. One called Telluride "the land of radical liberals." One opined that the Telluride council must conduct its meetings while passing around a bong. Another predicted the town would bow to Mecca in the near future.
Read about the devastating impact on the town here.

I think boycotts rarely have much effect. They scare companies, but if someone makes a product people want, they'll buy it.

I would be more inclined to meet the whackjobs' demands (such as they are) if they threatened to show up rather than stay away. As Anonymous notes, this is probably a marketing plus for Telluride.

I've been to Telluride, hiked the mountains there and ate at its restaurants. That town will do just fine, with or without Dick and George's blowhard buddies.

To think, all this time the Texas and Florida republicans were in fact driving people AWAY from Telluride.

I'd happily vacation someplace where I could be fairly assured of not running into a bunch of conservative jackasses in the bar.

I bet the air smells so much better without the stink of Texas Rethuglicans. Just how will Telluride survive without all the tainted Halliburton money coming to town? And, just where will they spend all that looted government booty? I guess the strip bars in Houston and Vegas will have booming business.

I love Telluride. Always have. Glad to hear they've cleaned it up a bit.

The article describing the impact on the town makes it look like Mecca all right.....at the height of Hajj!
