Bush's mission now is getting his approval rating back up to 45% so historians can't trash him. Expect any cries of a "recession" to be poo-pooed off (or blamed on the Democrats if it looks inevitable) and the rhetoric against Iran to ratchet up if not come to a head (cuz people will run in droves to rally around him if another war starts)
Poppy could have bitten the head off a chicken at the convention (and at each of the debates, for that matter) given the competition.
