Made In America

From a report by Stratfor on July 21 (subscription required, link here):
Hezbollah has implemented its strategy by turning southern Lebanon into a military stronghold, consisting of well-designed bunkers that serve both as fire bases and launch facilities for rockets. The militants appear to be armed with anti-tank weapons and probably anti-aircraft weapons, some of which appear to be of American origin, raising the question of how they were acquired.
A dose of perspective to go with all the recent braying about "Iranian weapons pouring into Lebanon by the truckload"---and, along with this report, a reminder that for some war is a very good business.

Very good business.

So far in this conflict, apart from the tremendous human tragedy on both sides, one thing stands out: Hezbollah is stronger than anticipated. Given this fact and the high cost in human life, is Israel's initial reaction to try and create a buffer zone in southern Lebanon a valid one? Will any buffer zone ever be large enough to keep ever farther reaching rockets away?

Thanks for the link about America supplying Israel's bombs, CR. I guess that makes us the Iran of the west. (A fascist theocracy? we're workin' on it!)

Transparency is good.

This government an honest mediator in the Middle East?

Now that is the biggest bullshit I have yet heard. We do not have the balls to stand up to Israel, we just do what they dictate.

Just like Blair has become a joke sitting at his master's feet asking pretty please for permission in question of foreign policy.

I just shake my head at the mess this country has made, and it is not going to get better, only worse.

Will we survive this president? I am afraid it will only be 4 out of 10 that we will make it.

I feel sorry for the next one, as he will inherit such a mess, in any catagory you care to examine, that the chance to get this country back to where it was in Jan 2001 is nill.

This president has turned out to be the worst enemy this country has ever faced and it lost.

And please I hope the next one is NOT christian, is this one has turned out the biggest butcher we have had.
And don't say he is a war president, this country has not declared war on either Afganistan or Iraq. We just invaded, just like Israel is doing in Lebanon.

Saying we are it war is just propaganda. Look Johnson declared war on poverty, did that mean the US declared war on its poor?

Besides that war has been lost and Bush made sure that it stayed lost permanently till the end of time.

We're the number one arms dealer on the planet. That is good news for the military industrial complex but bad news for soldiers and civilians.

During its occupation of southern Lebanon, Israel armed a militia called the South Lebanon Army. When the Israeli army withdrew in 2000, the SLA collapsed in one day. Perhaps this American-made gear had been given by Israel to the SLA, and then was picked up by Hizbollah when the SLA collapsed.
