"Russia's Big, And So Is China"

AP:
It wasn't meant to be overheard. Private luncheon conversations among world leaders, picked up by a microphone, provided a rare window into both banter and substance -- including President Bush cursing Hezbollah's attacks against Israel.

Bush expressed his frustration with the United Nations and his disgust with the militant Islamic group and its backers in Syria as he talked to British Prime Minister Tony Blair during the closing lunch at the Group of Eight summit.

"See the irony is that what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s--- and it's over," Bush told Blair as he chewed on a buttered roll.

Blair, whose remarks were not as clearly heard, appeared to be pressing Bush about the importance of getting international peacekeepers into the region.

Bush expresses amazement that it will take some leaders as many as eight hours to fly home -- about the same time it will take Air Force One with Bush aboard to return to Washington.

"You eight hours? Me, too. Russia's a big country and you're a big country," Bush said, at one point telling a waiter he wanted Diet Coke. "Takes him eight hours to fly home. Russia's big and so is China.
Yeah Blair, what're you doing? Are you leaving."

Bush also remarked that some speakers at the meeting talk too long.
The president's feeling his cartographer oats during a relatively calm geopolitical period, eh? If next we hear him exclaim "Iran's bigger than Iraq!" we'll know things are looking up.

President Fuckwit. That's the way we ought to describe the man-boy occupying the White House. President Fuckwit.

Compare Bush's life and "leadership skills" with those of the last Czar. There are more parallels than I really want to believe. Has there ever been a time in the last 75 years when American political leadership was less capable?!?

On an unrelated note, I caught your delightfully understated comment at Bainbridge's site, CR. It was this site, or maybe Belgravia Dispatch, that made me aware of Bainbridge. Gotta say, after looking in on him for several months, I really don't understand why he's got such a vaunted reputation. He might be very shrewd and informed in the business law arena, but that's not really my thing, so I can't judge. But when he delves into politics, or the Republican Party, or elite privilege, most of the time he turns the brain off, goes into kneejerk mode, and embarrasses himself.

What a tool.

My flippant take on the very same:

I noted a sort of "can you follow this?" tone to Mr. Blair. Oh, and good luck banking on Asad to make this peaceful once again.

Smart mistress.

Anyway, this post is funny. I assume everyone knows the president by now and will not be surprised.

I have to wonder about the quality of education he received, at Andover and Yale of all places! With a father who at one point was posted in China, it's not that he wasn't aware that anything existed outside the U.S.A. Why was this young man so left behind in geography? Was he simply moved through the system at those schools, the same way many kids in our less privileged schools are?

Being president is obviously a learning process.

Well, it's not like Republicans oppose social promotion for everyone, after all. Just the maggotry.

sglover (and antoinie), exactly so. G.W. Bush was what is known as a 'legacy' - a child of influential and wealthy alumni - and was entered into schools with putatively high standards that otherwise would never have accepted him but where, as a legacy, he did have something of a choice: he could excel, or not, but either way would pass through. The choice he made was, and is, painfully obvious virtually every time he acts or even opens his mouth (except to him - his indifference to the opinion of those below his percieved class is quite absolute).

Republicans never oppose social promotion for one of their own. This is the same logic that opposes welfare, unless it is for those already wealthy: worth and worthiness is a priori, never post facto. Barbara, G. H. Bush, and their children would have been Tories or Royalists during the American Revolution and it is a singular irony of our current state that the majority of the population fail to realize revolutions never really end and that we could still lose the one we successfully started in 1776.

All Presidents have to learn on the job.

I just wish that what this President was learning wasn't the stuff my son has been getting in elementary school.

One imagines Blair, tiptoeing out of the room, trying to leave without Bush noticing.

Bush is a caricature of a parody of a village idiot...

Bushmert doesn’t care about “collateral damages”: someone who enthusiastically destroyed Bagdad, the former capital of an empire stretching from Spain to India, won’t have second thoughts about razing a small Levantine city-state with no oil to steal.

The Arab League and its Saudi and Egyptian “pillars” did nothing for Iraq in 2003, even though TeX-Aviv was then exclusively targeting their fellow Sunni Arabs…

One shouldn’t expect the Wahhabi thugs of Riyadh to lift a finger for Lebanon’s Christian and Shiite civilians who are suffering the brunt of Israel’s disproportionate retaliation.

Four days ago, the house of Saud sent a crystal clear message to Bushmert- a man who appreciates “moral clarity” whatever that means:

“The massacre can continue. Please Sahib President, make sure Yahweh’s glorious air force destroys in priority Beirut, the South, and the Beqaa valley. Allah blesses you. Saudi Arabia is your friend. You can always count on us. The Supreme Council of the Riyadh ‘Ulamas is praying day and night for your victory. We love you Mr. President. Allah loves you.”

GW would be a great person to party with. He's funny in that respect. It sounds like he was in his party mode! We had the G8 in our town 2 years ago. I am suprised that they have any private moments with all the press that is about. I am not defending him as a President, I am defending a little right to privacy and dignity that we all would appreciate at moments like this.

I don't get it. People keep saying that GW would be a great guy to party with, or have a beer with... Why? Why would anyone want to have a beer with an incurious alky frat-boy? I'd much rather have a cherry coke with Warren Buffett.

Bush's unintentionally public conversation in St. Petersburg with Tony Blair was very interesting, profanity aside. I hear the President swears quite a bit anyway. No, the really interesting part is the rare glimpse we get into their working relationship. For a more expansive look at that conversation, do visit http://ericstake.com.

You people are all ridiculous. Do you often think that its the same distance from Moscow to St Pete's as it is from St. Pete's to Washington. You all would have had the exact same reaction, and the fact that you think you're somehow too sophisticated or smart or god knows what to admit it speaks volumes about you. I'd rather have a beer with Bush anyday than be forced to listen to the pompous, self-aggrandzing shit that comes from this blog and many of the commenters here.

How are you all having beers with Bush if he doesn't (supposedly) drink? You gonna party with a tea-totaler?

I think he's back on the wagon frankly. Look at his expression when he's giving Merkel a shoulder massage...the man is out of it totally.

Who will ask if it's appropriate for a married man to be giving massages to strange women? Family values baby. God, I would use that video to hammer the Republicans into a bloody pulp.

But we all agree that Bush is better suited for the neighborhood bar than the White House. Why the outrage?

I prefer to drink my beer with folks who have intelligent conversations. Last election I would have loved to sit and have a beer with Kerry, who has something to talk about, than hear about clearing brush and the antics of an ex-cheerleader.

Different strokes, I guess....

One of the significant benefits to distance education in a developing country context is that teachers can remain at their posts and interact with learners, family, and the community. They can apply what they are learning immediately to their situation and save the government money as teachers taking distance courses don’t need to be replaced as would be the situation if they attended regular face-to-face teacher training colleges. click here for more information.
