Mission Creep Watch....

White House spokesman Blair Jones, on the antiwar protests in DC and other cities over the weekend: "Our Constitution guarantees the right to peacefully express one's views. The men and women in our military are fighting to bring the people of Iraq the same rights and freedoms."

So according to the White House, these troops were fighting for something called "freedom of expression in Iraq."

See how this will go for the next 5-10 years?

I suspect you're right (if they know what's good for them!).

Well, if White House spokesman Blair Jones were honest (hell, if anybody in the Bush administration were honest), he would have simply said, "Our troops are there because they're there." Forget about all of that fuzzy freedoms and rights feel-good nonsense.

And our troops are dying there because Bush sent them there to die.

Simple enough.

maybe a little off topic but it occured to me as I was watching Perle and Tom Delay on MTP that what sets them apart (this goes for anyone who still supports the war) is a complete and utter inability to adapt to new information as it becomes available. They just go on and on spouting the same talking points that they were spouting in 2003.

As does Victoria Toensing.

All of the above should be incarcerated.

I'm still baffled how Tom Delay is giving televised commentary as opposed to mopping floors in a prison.

This is classic Bush. Once he sets himself on a course, he is almost pathologically incapable of changing direction due to facts on the ground. He can change rhetoric when they write him a new speech and talking points, but he can't actually shift.

Need examples? Tax cuts; needed because we have a surplus then needed because we have a recession. Katrina; lot's of rhetoric, little action. Afghanistan; backed the militia, and then couldn't commit when bin Laden and over 1,000 terrorists were trapped in Tora Bora. No Child Left Behind; nice idea, but can't follow through to change what's not working.

It goes on and on and on.

As long as the majority of the American population feel no pain. They can do and say anything they want. They fixed the mistakes from Vietnam. They learned their lesson. No involuntary draft and we can do whatever we want. What scares me is how the democrats aren't going after Bush at all. They don't care about the signing statements...don't care about the FISA violations. The democrats are going to use Bush's new found powers to their advantage when they take the presidency. The only good thing about that is we are going to see the republicans dusting off their copies of the constitution for the first time in 8 years...damn hypocrites. Clinton would almost be poetic justice...She'll be a disaster of course but at least I get to laugh in all the dittoheads faces after I point out how good old Georgie boy paved the way for our first female emperor...or is that Empress?

We have Free Speech in America? Could have fooled me. After all, the US gov't (and their corporate friends), already detain protesters, ban books like "America Deceived" America Deceived (book) from Wikipedia, and fire 21-year tenured, BYU physics professor Steven Jones because he proved explosives, thermite in particular, took down the WTC buildings. At least, they'll have Free Speech in Iraq.

DO NOT BUY AMERICA DECEIVED. It is right-wing shock mockery. I know a independent bookseller that got snookered by one of these spam messages and bought a case of this "book." Google the title "America Deceived" and see how these right-wing spammers operate. Avoid the book and these spammers like the plague.

What will happen in Iraq, simple answer it will be divided into three different countries and will never threaten Israel again. Iran is next 'cab off the rank', that is the real reason the U.S. is there!
