The Face Of The Enemy?

Be sure to watch this video in which Iraqi kindergarteners at an upscale, secular school ride seesaws, play on swings, and sing about guns and bombs -- and, as their teacher explains, vow to take up arms against "the occupation."

These kids are being taught some terrible lessons. I can't imagine what it must be like to be a child over there.

This jumped out at me towards the end: "Most of all, she says, they just want to "live like before."" So just who are we helping here? It doesn't surprise me that many Iraqis would prefer Saddam Hussein's government to what we have given them. Bush has made criminals of us all.

Well, in fairness if they are five years old they probably have no idea what it was like to live in Iraq "before".

To be fair, nobody said they would kill Americans. They just want to end the occupation-- don't we all. They just want to live "like before."

One question not answered is whether this is a Sunni or Shi'ite neighborhood. My understanding is that most Sunnis, especially Ba'athists, would indeed like it the way it was because they were top dog.

The situation is FUBAR. It's too nuanced for for our crude foreign policy tools and military to fix.
