Just getting warmed up for next years election season.
Oh, hey, once again the terrorist plot turns out to be nothing. It is this pattern that further convinces me that the fact that we have not had a terrorist attack since 9/11 (the anthrax thing seems to have been home-grown) is not because of increased vigilance and effectiveness on the part of the federal government. I have lost count of all the breathless false alarms we have had over the past years. Is this the threat we face? If so, it's not much of one.
In light of this pattern, it seems much more likely to me that either it takes Al Qaeda (or whomever) years to plan attacks, or that they just don't have the capability or interest.
So what are we left with? A government that uses the fear of terrorism to control the populace, consolidate power, and further entrench the power elite. Yay.
When people ask me why I'm so cynical, I ask them to show me where I'm wrong...
