Almost Seven Years On
Some recent photos from Afghanistan. My favorites are the first and the last.
Related, I learned recently that Thor Hesla, an American killed in the attack on the Serena Hotel in Kabul earlier this year, was very close to a longtime friend of mine. Here's one article about him.

In reading Sherlock Holmes a few years ago, I was struck by the rhyming of history (one of TCR's themes.)
The famous Dr. Watson, when he first met the great private investigator on Baker Street, was recently returned from serving in the Afghanistan as a member of the British Medical Corps.
Holmes had described him thusly: "as thin as a lath and as brown as a nut." The story is that Watson was injured and nearly killed as part of the peace keeping mission in the Afghan province.
So it turns out that western civilization has been insinuating itself into Afghan culture for at least 120 years... without apparent success.
Thanks for letting us know about those photographs. I'm sorry about Mr. Helsa.
Very nice pictures, I think its a great country without control, but we can fix that.... according with the pictures, does it easy to shot it? you know what I mean. I loved what you did, each imagine has something hide behind the obvious.
seriously these photos reminds me the awful war in Afghanistan where a lot of people die...
This will not succeed in fact, that's what I suppose.
In my view every person ought to look at it.
This can't truly have success, I feel this way.
