Accountability Watch

Number of days since the taxpayer bailout of Fannie and Freddie that Bernanke has remained Fed chairman and Greenspan hasn't been hauled in front of Congress: 2

This post will be updated regularly.

More on Bernanke soon....

Remeber when Nixon said "we are all Keynesians now"? That is how politics work. The people are less on guard with the Republicans because they are "free market" fundamentalists. GWB should say "we are all Marxists now". Funny how the world works. All you have to do is be bold enough to tell straight faced lies and everyone takes your word for it.

I am not a communist.
I am not a Keynesian.
Gold, Guns, Rural property...and screw all of you. May your children starve to death. You deserve it.

Everybody should read John Ralston Saul's "A Dictionary of Aggressive Common Sense". A former oil executive, diplomat, and bilingual novelist, he's got a tremendous amount of real-life experience to draw upon when analyzing politics and economics. One of my favourite definitions in his dictionary is, " . . . the only practicing Marxists in the world today are the CEO's of large corporations."

Very blunt, yet on target.

All this whimpering is well and good, but can we stop being so selfish and start working together to highlight the plight of Daniel Mudd (Fannie Mae, $19 million severance) and Richard Syron (Freddie Mac, a measely $14 million)?

Honestly, it's in the moments when our friends and peers face such dire circumstances that we show our real strengths as a society. Can we all vow to do something to help? A bake sale perhaps?

Seriously, stories like this drive me to fume in a dark room, nursing a bourbon and pondering if I just chuck the whole attitude (sort of an English-degree-pragmatist-democrat-with dash-of-libertarianism schtick) and go full-on eco-warrior anarchist....or get my MBA.

Get an MLS, Jalexei. There's less work involved, and everyone needs a librarian.

Yes. Actual accountability would be a good thing. And certainly a real confidence building.

Good comments.

"the only practicing Marxists in the world today are the CEO's of large corporations." -

"Get an MLS" - Don't quite understand this one. Don't you have to be a Real Estate agent to view the MLS. Or is that the point, anyone can become a real estate agent and there is no accountability. Lying seems to be requirement, though.

"everyone needs a librarian" - And Palin would inquire into the exact procedure to ban material.

A WSJ Opinion Piece:
"Bush Has a Good Economic Record"

If this is true, I sure would hate to see bad. So many people losing their jobs (including my neighbor) and we are at a tipping point of a financial catastrophe of unknown magnitude. Now Lehman Brothers, again.

That's Masters of Library Science. And yes you need an advanced degree to be a librarian (most places).
