Just crooks in nice suits, in well-decorated offices?
Can you imagine saying, man, I just can't work in this office the way it is decorated, it has to change no matter what. That's what Thain said to Bartiromo, "It really would have been—very difficult—for—me to use it in the form that it was in. And—you know, I—it needed to be renovated no matter what." -- "the no matter what" part, was particularly appalling.
These are the same folks that say: taxing us will hurt the country, lower taxes on capital gains, pay us in stock options, give us your money. Trust us, we are the great Wall Street and we have the real "power". They divide the country by saying it will help us, when it's all about them. They load the lobbyists with BS (using fees they extracted from our money/retirement funds) to work over the apparently gullible or willing-partner Congress. They have shown us who they really are: not very smart, not very nice, not very ethical, willing to do great harm to others and our way of life. Surely this is not a good thing? They have no feelings whatsoever, well maybe a middle-finger to us, of what they have done. Their actions seem to be the antithesis of what America is suppose to be about. No?
These guys are living off the taxpayer bonuses, grabbing it outright or underhandedly, waiting "it" out, until they can pounce again and continue their destruction practices. While so many go through real hard times, these guys continue as if they are royalty, "Let them eat cake". Money just doesn't buy crap from China, or another sailboat or nanny. Money buys education (which dictates the future quality of life), healthcare, food, security for a family that includes food, shelter, utilities.
Jon Stewart said it best. When Thain said they needed to keep the smart people to maintain their franchise, Jon said, "you don't have any smart people." That's why we are in the situation we are in.
When I vote for an elected official or do business with a "professional", I expect them to be ethical, I expect them to do their job honestly and to the best of their ability, without doing harm. Most people I know, expect the same thing. I don't expect to be screwed if I go to a hospital, bank, Wall Street. I know it's not true, but that's the point. It should be. We have a string of institutions and standards that work together, from education, professional accreditation, regulatory authorities, public media, and watchdogs that keep the unethical, illegal, unsavory practices to a minimum.
Each of us has a role in society in our chosen profession, and us working together is what makes us, our Democracy, better. It's what builds a safe, strong, economically and environmentally sustainable society for generations. Isn't that what we want?
Lol anon. I agree with everybody on this board. The only difference is I don't believe the docile American public is capable of doing anything but nod their heads in agreement with the next banker bailout. Lol. Ummmm better buy gold folks...the great inflation is coming. I have said before if there is ever a big mob going to DC to do some real damage count me in! I'd be glad to string up a congress critter or two. Lol

First there was the great depression...now there is the great fleecing. LOL
Where can I pick up my pitchfork!
A pitchfork has too sharp a point -- might lower the pain factor. I vote for a good, old-fashioned clubbing. Let me know when. I'll carry the torches.
Retention? Where are these people going to go? Is the financial job market good right now?
I take a pay cut and these guys are getting retention pay. Great. I guess I should have gone into finance. Win or lose, you win.
sickening
Well, they are responsible for AIG's biggest profit center - bailout money....

how about leg irons instead of "million dollars?"
I have read that AIG is allegedly a CIA operative. Perhaps this is hush money.
