Early Oogedy-Boogedy

It's interesting to read decades-old political, economic, and social commentary and see how the writer's observations and predictions played out. From a 1980 profile of "the new Evangelical Right" by Martin Amis in The Observer:

The anti-intellectual content in Evangelical feeling is, by definition, a source of pride to its leaders. But it will either ruin or deform the movement eventually. No book but the Bible; Genesis or Darwin, one or the other. This is why the movement will have to be contested. This is why the movement is so wide-open, so abjectly vulnerable, to authoritarian thought.

Not bad for almost thirty years ago....

If only we would listen and learn.

"authoritarian thought" - As in the Republican Party, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh... ???

We aren't much better today. My gut tells me they are regrouping, and don't underestimate them or the people that will dominate them. It'll spring up worse than ever, if we don't somehow deal with the root cause. A little education would go a long way.

Give me a break. This argument easily runs both ways. The key is to allow less power to accumulate in one place so tyrants from either political wing have little room to inflict their damage. Screw you anonymous, the dems have had FDR, LBJ,McNamara, Carter, Soros, now the Chosen One.

So where was Pete when we set aside posse comitatus, habeas corpus, Article 1 and all the Amendments except the 2nd? No doubt Pete was on his knees with the rest of the christ-crazies, practicing submitting to authority by fawning to an imaginary oriental potentate in the sky.

From one anonymous to the another. Your hatred for the republican party has blinded you, if you have not noticed they are basically finished. And it was they that defeated themselves not the democrats "brilliance".
And your slavish adherance to your democratic "gods" does not strenghten your position no matter how pendantic, it just comes off as the usual angry,hypo/hypercritical,atheist,liberal monotonous spew all the while ignoring your own parties flaws, oh yeah and disengenious too. You are either in or out in your paradigm no genuine reflection or admittance of anything wrong as Peter pointed out. So who is really close minded?

Who you calling a democrat? Goldman Sachs owns those tools. Nobody gives a shit about Republicans anymore. But go look up disengenous and admittance. And pendantic, what is that, having old-lady tits? You sound like a Regent alum.

I don't sure about it so I think if someone wants to be a leader they can do it because all of us are able to reach it.
