Part of an email in response to my last post:

As of right now it doesn't look like the suspect was inspired by any single political figure or media personality or even had any coherent political philosophy. So some nut runs amok and its time for restrictions on political speech?

If I posted on this blog a map of the U.S. with crosshairs over the home districts of members of Congress -- and used the color red to denote those already at the end of their political lives -- I would expect to get a knock on the door. That knock would probably come even sooner if a quick search of my posts showed I was fond of words like "reload" and "aim."

The angry Right and Tea Partiers in particular like to rant -- often justifiably -- that the professional political set is divorced from the rest of the country, enjoys unique benefits, and lives by a different set of rules. This is not about "restricting political speech." It's about enforcing laws that already exist and are used all the time against people who don't enjoy the immunity that apparently comes solely from having one's own political action committee.
