Timetables

When up is down, and left is right. From the AP today:
The Pentagon has ordered 1,500 additional troops to Iraq to provide security in advance of two upcoming votes, the military announced Wednesday.

Two infantry battalions from the 82nd Airborne Division will deploy to Iraq before the scheduled Oct. 15 referendum on the proposed constitution, and remain through the December national elections, officials said.

They will join the 138,000 U.S. troops already there. The battalions are expected to remain in Iraq for 120 days.

Lt. Col. Barry Venable, a Pentagon spokesman, said those deployments helped limit the effectiveness of the insurgent campaign.

"This deployment is in support of continued progress," he said. "We are reinforcing success."
Interesting, this thing called success. Just how much more of it can we take?

By the way...does anyone know if these daily military briefings are happening at five o'clock?

it looks like, among the collateral damages exerted by this fiasco in iraq will be the army's hard-won reputation for candor and honesty.

Yes, the parallels to our disaster in Vietnam continue to build, right down to the kind of language being used by the military. TCR's long post about these parallels a few month ago is turning out to be prescient, unfortunately.

Is the previous comment spam? Very strange. Anyway, I find your interpretation of politics refreshing after searching through other blogs. Many are disturbingly pro-Bush, almost fascistic. It is nice to see someone "on the right" with some sense in his head.

CR has posted in the past that we will be in Iraq as long as they have oil. I totally agree with him, and this sort of news continues to confirm that in my mind.

Hilz, the Pentagon used to always brief at 1. Odd.

Now, as for the 82nd. A portion of either the 82nd or the 101st is considered deployable for emergency purposes. They have a cool military term for it, but I can't remember it. This is the second quick deployment of the 82nd. 700 were sent for prison duty last week.

These deployments are often made in a pinch, so to speak.

I listened to Bush's speeches, oh boy, the guy continues to divide the country. Remember when he campaigned as a "uniter". Are there any campaign promises he has kept? He was more right when he said it would be easy "if he were the dictator". He uses generic terms to describe why we are in Iraq, the preemptive war Bush started, but fails consistently to tell us what is the noble cause. There has been so many reasons over the course of 3+ years that we really need to have a back and forth dialog. He says one thing, and then it changes, and then it becomes something else.

Tom Hartman took a stab at the reason in this article.

Interesting articles saying Tony Blair is planning on joining the Carlyle Group after he's done.

I have been following a site now for almost 2 years and I have found it to be both reliable and profitable. They post daily and their stock trades have been beating
the indexes easily.

Take a look at Wallstreetwinnersonline.com
