Good To See...

Bush steps up and does the right thing here. In the grand scheme of things perhaps not a big deal. But just before a trip to China, far from insignificant.

Wrong. It's insignificant. Bush will meet with the Dalai Lama, and then ten minutes later he'll be talking with corporate leaders about how to expand trade with China and how great it is that so many cheap Chinese goods are keeping down inflation.

Don't confuse political theater with substantive diplomacy.

Hugely sensitive issue in China. Agree with TCR, Bush did right thing here, good to see, and it actually means something if only symbolic (which is all we have vs. China on human rights anyway).

He probably just wanted to ask the Dali Lama what Richard Gere was like in real life.

He was probably thinking it was Dolly the cloned sheep he was meeting.

BIG DEAL, another photo-up, signifying NOTHING.

I disagree heartily with the tone of the other comments: it is VERY important to the 6 million or so Tibetans, who are in the midst of cultural, and to a degree, literal, genocide at the hands of the Chinese, that their exiled leader is recognized. America crows about North Korea, Iran, and the former Iraq, but ignores the crimes of the Chinese in Tibet.

Previous poster is EXACTLY right. People who think this was insignificant are infuriatingly clueless about this issue.

Probably the most sensitive issue politically in China for many years. Good to see the Prez step up on it.

Nobody has said that issue is insignificant. It's whether a photo op will change anything. It won't. It just gives credulous folk a little comfort. Makes everyone feel good. Personally, I'm sick of photo ops. Call me when he's going to cut off trade or drop bombs or sign a treaty or something that actually changes anything.

Messages are mixed; and actions, other than PR, indicate ??.

For example, remember Darfur, Sudan, genocide... that is still going on. There is a bill Darfur Accoutability Act, and the White House was/is trying to kill it. Only last time they sent a letter, this time a House proxy to cover their tracks and stop it.

This is kind of a nice summary of what others around the world think of the secret CIA prisons. I thought Turkey had a point, "human smuggling sponsored by governments is gradually becoming a nightmare for the entire world... Are we going to cover up operations, unlawful acts, and crimes against humanity committed by the CIA or on its behalf in this country?"

And have you been following the use of white phosphorus in the Fallujah battle last year. This sounds like another Abu Ghraib type story festering. Although it is interesting that this is coming out of Italy, the same place with the Niger uranium document started. Ho hum.

When the "enemy" is mixed with the "civilians" in guerrilla warfare, does saying "we didn't target civilians" change anything... And I thought dirty and cluster bombs were bad enough :-(

If you belive that Bush does anything with out being told to do it then maybe it was significant. But he could not make the Rosa Parks service since he had to have lunch and dinner with the Prince of Wales.
Bush supports torture, how can he support the rights of any group of peoples?

TCR, I have a request.
Can you put a clickable list of posts on the right side of your page? It would help your fans a lot.

Thanks

I have been following a site now for almost 2 years and I have found it to be both reliable and profitable. They post daily and their stock trades have been beating
the indexes easily.

Take a look at Wallstreetwinnersonline.com
