The Halley's Comet Plan

Fred Thompson: "100-year plan" for Iraq better than our current timetable.

According to your linked article, "Al-Qaida have a 100-year plan," Thompson said. "We have a plan until the next election."

The comment could be taken a criticism of the administration's short-term mentality regarding a plan for Iraq (in the coming months, by September, in six months, whatever). He could be arguing for the need to think ahead, think things through and "count the cost."

Personally, I think bush was determined to go to Iraq by March of 2003. He expected to be in and out quickly so he could start campaigning as a victorious war president. As Thompson implies, he had a plan only until the next election.

I almost agree, but Bush was hell bend to invade Iraq the day he became pres.

He was going to show up daddy and take out Saddam.
I think if Jesus would have visited him and showed him what would happen if he invaded, he still would have gone ahead.

No one can stop a fool if he is determined on a course of action, especially if helped by more fools and yes men.

You may be right, but he needed to do it by March of '03 to reap the potential political benefits. That's why the rush.

The Iraq invasion was put on the table in 1992. It was Cheney & Company's table.
