Spotty Posting To Follow...

Oil $110, gold $1000, and the dollar's de facto devaluation continues. None of this, particularly gold, should be any surprise to regular readers. Have you been protecting your savings from the madness? There are some fascinating and distressing things going on out there right now. I wish I had more time to post, but a bunch of things, including an upcoming magazine article, will keep me busy for the next few days.

For now, keep in mind that the moves in oil, gold, and the dollar are putting enormous pressure on policymakers and the system itself. This is a once or twice in a lifetime type of situation, so from a policy standpoint there's not really any useful or reliable template, nor is there any bench experience to tap. Compounding things is the clear and absolute culpability of this White House for the debacle that's unfolding. Since consequences are to statists as garlic is to vampires, I think during the next few months vigilance will be more important than ever -- particularly as the system, already buckling under various economic stresses, ponders the prospect of a black Democrat in the Oval Office.

I don't understand what you are saying. Are we supposed to be more vigliant about our savings or something else?

I assume you mean the system that is already buckling will become worse under a Democratic administration. Why would it be even more worse under a black one than a white one?

It wasn't clear by the wording but I think the message is that the statists would do 'ANYTHING' to prevent the change that a black Democrat would bring to the government.

I still don't understand. The definition of statist, as CR used it, is one who believes in the intervention of the government in the economy. As CR has documented, the Bush administration has been meddling in the economy for years.

Is a black Democrat going to be even more of a statist than Bush?

I've been protecting my savings by not having any.

I think he's saying watch out for propaganda, deceit, sabotage, and subterfuge from the current power elite because the prospect of a black democrat in office means that they will end up facing consequences (as opposed to if the other 2 hopelessly compromised candidates get elected).

Anon #2 and Tom R. are correct. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Just to enlighten new readers... I think TCR is being even more specific -- I could cite some past blog entries but I'm at work and rather busy -- it is TCR's opinion, that politicians in general but most especially the ones in power now, use foreign "diplomatic crises" as a distraction from intractable internal economic issues. (I put that in scare-quotes because this current administration seems utterly incompetent at diplomacy even when they deign to make a sham attempt at it; they prefer to skip straight to confrontation.)

So beware of a suspiciously un-strategic "sudden sneak attack" by Iran on our troops in the Gulf, or a ramping up of tensions, or whatever. Beware of unsourced allegations about Iranian aggression, and look out for the Administration's cronies in the media to suddenly step up their denunciations against Iran. Maybe other countries like Korea or China as well.

And regardless whether you describe this as "racism" or not, the cronies and gold-diggers and Teapot-Dome'rs of the Obama Administration will in large measure be different from the ones currently sucking at the government teat -- big media, energy conglomerates... military contractors will see declines in their no-bid contracts, while more government money will likely be thrown towards social services -- so that's what TCR means when he suggests "the system" will be nervous about the prospect of a Black President. Hence, big media and other large interests will desperately latch onto whatever preposterous phony provocation that the Bush Administration can drum up. Their interests, too, are best served when the vulgar masses focus on foreign enemies rather than sound economic and social policies at home.

Oooops, just as I post this, TCR walks in and explains his own mind. Well, maybe he agrees with my interpretation or maybe not, but as a longtime reader I doubt he really takes a lot of exception to my interpretation.

So how come all the "good" Republicans don't standup and protest this administration and save the Republican party, and oh by the way, our country? Just wondering... It seems you have 3 types of Republicans, the extremists - religious or racists, privatized military and conman guzzling government contracts, and the elite business professionals who are disgusted but do nothing about it.

"October Surprise" .... anytime between now and then but closer to then, I think.
Does America "rush" to the Republicans to keep them safe? I think that'll be the narrative. And, does anyone believe Bush has set up the Federal Government, thus, to leave it to Democrats? I think not.

I'm guessing a downed airliner, one filled to the brim with evangelical missionaries. An Iranian made Mithaq-2 right up the old tail pipe.

Ironic. Isn't this the inevitable realization of the 'party of Lincoln'?

Well hell, this administration let 9/11 happen because it was in their best interest. Why wouldn't we blame them for the next one?

Not so sure about that. Will depend on gains in House and Senate. If Senate is filibuster-proof, expect the excrement to hit the whirling blades. Otherwise, all bets are off with these tepid Dems.

So how come all the "good" Republicans don't standup and protest this administration and save the Republican party, and oh by the way, our country?

Way too little, way too late. The brand is hopelessly compromised at this point. Everyone's running for the exits at this point.

this administration let 9/11 happen

At a minimum they created an environment that allowed it to happen.

When you look at Bush's history, whether college, military --- or lack of, oil business bailout, Saudi connections, and that of his brothers (i.e., savings and loan debacle) and that of his father's family, what is happening is Bush- as-usual. The man with the anti-midas touch. Why in the world did the Republican party ever pick him. Argh!

There are multiple levels in the power structure - the Outer Party and the Inner Party.

The Outer Party is very upset that the day of reckoning has come. Horrified is a better word.
The old power structures are going to be blown away by the economic hurricane.

The Inner Party is not upset at all. GWB was their man. He was the right person in the right place at the right time.
He has proved a convenient idiot and is now moving on to his next role as scapegoat.

What the Outer Party doesn't know, and will realize too late, is that they have been taken for a ride just like the rest of us.

Real political change, the kind that changes the order of things, is always forced by economic distress.
For the new order to arise the old order must fall.

And what new order might the Inner Party have in store?
