Dolchstoss Alert

A post today on the website Craigslist (via reader CH):
I am a former Marine, who served in Iraq. I am no Bush supporter and did not vote for him. I was in communications for all you libs who like to scream "baby killer".

What I have to say is obvious. I followed the press before and since getting back. The fact is, we were making progress in Iraq. We had a job to do and were making tremendous headway fixing their infrastructure, building schools, gaining local support, and builing an Iraqi army among much more. The press never let anyone know just how damn well it was going. Instead the press and libs focused 110% on the negative from the beginning. When you focus on the negative what happens?

The liberals indirectly turned against our troops. This negative stance against their own country and the mission gave fuel to our enemy's fire. The terrorists saw an opening and hope in their fight. It became a self-fulfilling prophecy that led to the downfall of our mission there.

I now agree that Iraq is a lost cause...however it is not because of the lack of effort of our troops or our government. Nothing is perfect. The loss comes from the negative spotlight placed on our mission, troops, government, and country by the liberals in the US. They caused our losses and our made our efforts in vain. In fact, their aid to the enemies cost many of my brothers their lives. For that I will never forgive this party. You do not know what you have done, yet it is obvious. Your agenda and thirst for power is more important than the lives of others and the future hopes of Iraq.

Shame on you all.

Perfect....right down to the Vietnam-era "baby killer" (has that really been a prominent antiwar smear this time around?). The only thing that's missing is the "spitting on the troops when they return home" claim.

I checked to see if the post stirred up any replies, and saw this:
You should actually blame Rummy, Bush and Cheney for not listening to the generals when they recommended force levels in keeping with the Powell Doctrine.

This whole stabbed in the back BS sounds exactly like what the NAZIs ran on in 1933.
It's encouraging that on a mainstream social site like Craigslist, they're calling this crap for what it is. There will be plenty of opportunity to do so in the years ahead.

No, of course not. This whole post looks cribbed from Vietnam-era resentments. Everything about it looks fake.

If that guy "didn't vote for Bush," who the hell was left for him to vote for?

Sounds like one of those Turner-Diary-reading-McVeigh right-wingers who live in a Unibomber shack.

THOSE are the folks who are going to be coming out of the woodwork over immigration and pulling out of Iraq.

Craigslist ?!!

TCR, you sure do get around the web in your mission to bring the national sentiment to my humble kitchen.

Kudos. And thank you.

Sounds like the Marine is suffering from "Stockholm Syndrome".
His post also sounds disingenuous.

Either that or he is part of the phyops unit to promote the war and discourage protesting on the home front. Of course...our government would never propagandize its own people. LOL

Yeah, right, it's all the liberals fault. Gen. Eric K. Shinseki was "wildly off the Mark" on IRAQ.

Bush/Rummy had 6 years to stock up on the "right" kinds of Flag Officers at the Pentagon.

6 years to plan the pentagon budget

6+ years of Republican Control of congress. (Oversight?)

6 years of John Bolton style diplomacy at the UN.

6 years of allowing the best and brightest to leave the Service and return to IRAD as PMC's making 8 times thier military salaries.

"You go to war with the Army you have.." Remember who said that?

There's nothing more I can say that has not been better said on Frontline.

This whole business that the press should report only good news or they might encourage the enemy is based on the assumption that (1) Iraqis have no idea what is going on in their own country and only learn it from the US media, and (2) Arabs in general get their news from the US instead of from Al-Jazeera.

What Goldhorder said. They're going around the 'Liberal media filter': seeding the blogs and BBS. If it can be shown that taxpayer dollars are funding this propaganda, some people will be in deep doodoo.

mr. hedley bowes, who's going to go after them if this is taxpayer funded? The Democratic congress? I'm sure they're shaking. Accountability doesn't happen any more.

What a bunch of half-baked bullshit. I think this ex-marine should be questioning why the Bushies couldn't get proper body armor and and armored vehicles for the troops before sending them into battle. Or does he believe, like Rumsfeld, that you go into an unnecessary war with the army you have and not the army you'd like to have? Or worse, he probably believes that was the Dem's fault too.
