And That's That, Eh?
Over at the Corner, it's onward and---umm---upward. Rich Lowry points the way:
Many things we learned about Harriet Miers that didn't directly have to do with her suitability for the court tell us she's an extraordinary lady--loyal, discrete, careful, generous to her church and those around her. She has proven again this morning her selflessness. It's a shame that the president put her in the untenable position he did, but this whole business will soon be forgotten and she will continue to serve the president loyally as WH counsel.Soon be forgotten? This debacle did not happen in a vacuum. Nor did Iraq. Nor Katrina. We keep learning that "their roots connect them." How will we learn it next, and how painful will the lesson be?

Great point. It is indicative of a failed administrative strategy.
this debacle didn't happen in a vacuum, but on the other hand, everything they do in the white house occurs in a vacuum: a vacuum created by a lack of analytical thought.
Daniel Gross was pointing out in an article in the FT regarding the void left by Bernanke. A member of the econcomic concil, Rosen, is quoted as saying, "Economic policy in the Bush administratin is gerneated in a collegiate fashion".
Daniel Gross, adds: "Collegiate? With all the reckless shenanigans we've seen in the past several years, maybe Faber College."
Amen!
That's basically how this administration seems to do things.
Former Representative Danforth pointed to what he thought was wrong with the current Republican party which has been taken over by fanatics. And they had a lot to do with the Miers mess... they held a disturbing, organized attack against this woman.
I think Cheney, Gingrich, Bush, Rove, and some others have beaten into the party that: (1) never say anything negative about any Republican (but freely attack whether true or not the other parties), (2) never accept responsibility (move the blame some place else), and (3) attack anyone viciously (any means possible including distributing talking points to selected media) that does not patriotically holdup (1) and (2).
Very authoritarian and dictatorial.
"loyal, discrete, careful, generous to her church and those around her."
That fairly accurately describes many of the housewives and mothers in my neighborhood.
Does that mean they are also qualified to be Supreme Court Justices?
I have been following a site now for almost 2 years and I have found it to be both reliable and profitable. They post daily and their stock trades have been beating
the indexes easily.
