Permanently Temporary

....aka "war" without end, and all that entails:

Lauer: You said to me a second ago, one of the things you'll lay out in your vision for the next four years is how to go about winning the war on terror. That phrase strikes me a little bit. Do you really think we can win this war on terror in the next four years?

President Bush: I have never said we can win it in four years.

Lauer: So I’m just saying can we win it? Do you see that?

President Bush: I don’t think you can win it. But I think you can create conditions so that those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world — let's put it that way.

The Today Show

This program has targeted those with known links to al Qaeda. I've reauthorized this program more than 30 times since the September the 11th attacks, and I intend to do so for so long as our nation is -- for so long as the nation faces the continuing threat of an enemy that wants to kill American citizens.

During Watergate, it seems to me at a certain point the Republican Party (in particular, the republicans in Congress) decided that the survival of the GOP was more important than the survivial of Richard Nixon. It was Republican members of congress who quietly went to Nixon and told him he must resign.

Today, I see the party closing ranks around Bush. I can only assume they're decided to go down with the ship.

If that's the case, then good riddance to them all. They've chosen party over country.

We will be in a permanent state of terror as long as we are allied with Israel against the Arabs. Get used to the domestic spying and be careful what you say.

Not exactly what our founding fathers envisioned, eh?

The law is the law, and the president's good intentions do not give him the right to ignore and violate it, deliberately and secretly, for years on end. It isn't even a question of the wisdom of the policy, which is debatable: it's a question of the willfulabuse of power and disregard of the Constitutional powers reserved explicitly to the Congress.

See Bruce Fein in the Washington Times: http://www.washtimes.com/commentary/bfein.htm .... even some very conservative Republicans are concerned deeply.

See also Kevin Drum in the Washington Monthly: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2005_12/007818.php
... if we're going to define the entire Bush term as "wartime," with extraordinary powers not even requiring Congressional approval... ever.... we're on a very slippery slope indeed.

LOL, they barked at Dean for saying we wouldn't win in Iraq, yet Bush says we can't win the "war on terror" & he gets a free pass...

We need to ask ourselves how the War on Drugs went. After we answer that, maybe we need to look at how the War on Poverty has gone. If we still need to contemplate things, possibly the War on Crime is a good next step.

I believe we have conditioned the public to believe that if there is a problem, that the word war is the answer. It indicates how serious we must be to get to the solution. Suffice it to say, the word no longer has any meaning in our collective lexicon. The act of war is reserved to the Congress to declare on another country. End of story.

It is not an open-ended conflict against a tactic that the President gets to declare. The last war so declared by Congress was against Germany. Since that time, it has been carte blanche for the chief executive to involve the military in imperial fights. Korea, Vietnam, Beirut, Kuwait, Iraq, not to mention the skullduggery that the CIA managed in South America and the Middle East throughtout that time period.

War on Terror. If the U.S. is gullible enough to believe, then we deserve the results.

"court order" and "require approval of a judge" is what they said. (click on video snippet)

Trust them, trust them, is what they keep saying. But they continually say one thing and do another. It can't get any clearer than this. Where exactly have they been truthful with us, EVER!

I have been following a site now for almost 2 years and I have found it to be both reliable and profitable. They post daily and their stock trades have been beating
the indexes easily.

Take a look at Wallstreetwinnersonline.com
