Personal Intelligence Agency Alert

The link to the explanation of the PIA Alert is here. A new PIA Alert was triggered by The New Yorker, which screamed the following on the tear-away cover tease of its March 6 issue: "NEXT STOP IRAN. As Iran becomes a nuclear threat...." We know the U.S. intelligence community's current estimate is that Iran is about a decade away from the ability to produce a nuclear weapon; read about that here. Thus, The New Yorker appears to have its own Personal (or in this case Private) Intelligence Agency, the information from which has caused the magazine to reach a radically different conclusion than the large and well-funded intelligence community that includes the CIA, DIA and NSA. The marketing of Target Iran---the second half of what's so far been a horrible double-feature---continues apace.

(As a sidenote, a series of PIA Alert claxons sounded over the weekend during the Fox News program "Iran and the Bomb." Featuring images of Lenin and a wildly gesticulating Hitler to bolster dark intimations from Donald Rumsfeld and John Bolton, this was about as objective a program as one might expect from this outfit. I was on an airplane and a bit of a captive viewer, so I watched Fox for the first time in many months---a time interval I recommend to those still tuning in regularly for some reason. Fox's popularity is both a measure of our collective gullibility and a black mark on our culture. I suspect that a few decades from now, people will shake their heads in "what were they thinking" amazement just as we snicker about those crude World War II-era propaganda newsreels.)

The New Yorker piece by Connie Bruck contains little information on Iran's actual nuclear program. Instead, it focuses mainly on the efforts of Reza Pahlavi---the Shah's son and a sort of poor man's Ahmad Chalabi---to mobilize resistance to Iran's current government. Bruck describes Reza's association with notorious characters from his father's regime including former SAVAK division head Parviz Sabeti. (By the way, under the category of "you couldn't make this up," apparently Sabeti is a financial supporter of both George Bush and the RNC if the information at this link is correct and it's the same person, currently listed as "self employed" and residing inside a post office box in Florida.) Reza Pahlavi holding himself out to Iranians as a beacon of liberty is a bit like Mussolini's son suddenly showing up in Rome expecting to reinvigorate Italian fascism. As a measure of his credibility and perhaps his delusion, Reza tries to rewrite the history books on his father's tyranny and torture: "Maybe what happened twenty-six years ago is a blessing in disguise. I don't think we could have had the appreciation for democratic values we have come to today. It's by losing democracy that we have come to value it." Incredible, eh? If this is our best prospect for post-Mullah leadership (and Michael Ledeen has argued as much in the past; in this piece he describes Reza as "widely admired inside Iran," and among Ledeen's inimitable "trusted sources" I don't doubt it) then we've got big problems to go with our big cojones.

Cheney: Iran Faces 'Meaningful Consequences' if It Doesn't Curb Nuclear Program
Tuesday, March 7, 2006; 5:51 PM

Vice President Cheney threatened Iran today with "meaningful consequences" if it fails to cooperate with international efforts to curb its nuclear program.

"For our part, the United States is keeping all options on the table in addressing the irresponsible conduct of the regime," Cheney said in a speech to the pro-Israel lobby group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. [...]

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, speaking at a briefing at the Pentagon, said Iran is "currently putting people into Iraq to do things that are harmful to the future of Iraq. It is something that they, I think, will look back on as having been an error in judgment."

Asked if any Iranian-backed weapons were coming into Iraq, Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said, "There have been some IEDs [improvised explosive devices] and some weapons that are traceable back to Iran."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/07/AR2006030700670.html

OK, I get it:

-Iran allegedly supplies / supports Iraq's insurgency

-Iran builds / almost has the Bomb

-Iran wants to make the Euro their oil currency

Looks like we're in for a rough ride, because the crooks in the WH won't shy away from nuking Teheran.

There's a mid-term, ya know.

If anyone is interested in tracking Parviz Sabeti, I suggest that they start at sunbiz.org. Enter "Sabeti Parviz" and several companies are returned. Scroll through the registrations filed each year for the names and addresses of other Sabetis. For example, I found Parisa, Pardis and Mansour Sabeti.

For a list of the properties owned by the Sabetis in Orlando, visit the Orange County proerty tax assessor's website and enter "Sabeti". If I remember correctly, Orange County provides an aerial photo online.

I didn't find very much financial info for Reza Pahlavi but I did find some for a relative, Prince Kamyar Pahlavi and a Sarvenaz Pahlavi at sunbiz.org.

Prince Kamyar was a director and president of Pegasus Aviation of San Diego until Pegasus was dissolved in April 2004. His partners were Camille Bogel of Houston and David L. Massanaro of
Miami.

Prince Kamyar and Sarvenaz Pahlavi (who could also be a prince) were directors until December 2004 of B.C. Holdings, Inc. in Palm Beach. The other directors and officers are Dorrez and Peri Dolats. The registered agent is Eugene W. Murphy Jr. of Murphy, Reid & Pilotte at 340 Royal Palm Way, Palm Beach.

All four directors of B.C. Holdings list 150 Bradley Place, Palm Beach as their address.
If I remember correctly, 150 Bradley Place is the location of the luxury condo that the former treasurer of Nassau County, Santa Albicocco, swindled out of her dying husband, Sam.

Visit the Palm Beach County clerk's website for more info on the Pahlavis.

I visited Reza Pahlavi's website and it is a one page joke with an address in Falls Church, Virginia.

A hilarious interview with Pahlavi from something called the "Middle East News" has been kicking around the web for several years. The photo of Pahlavi in evening clothes is perfect for a man who has never worked a day in his frigging life.

Personally, I think both Pahlavi and Ledeen should disclose information about their personal finances before spouting off about Iran. I'm sure the Iranians would agree with me.

I only found one online article about the Pahlavi Foundation and it was dated 1976. Apparently, the big Pahlavi money is in the Foundation.

Reza and his smug little wife, Princess Yasmine, are a couple of charlatans on the charity front. I found a 2001 Washington Life article about a benefit gala for the Foundation for the Children of Iran. This charity is supposed to help sick Iranian children but I checked the 990s filed with the IRS and the foundation spent less than $3k in 2004 helping sick children and a whoop-de-do $120K in 2003. This from a guy worth billions.

The Mihan Foundation founded by Pahlavi to "promote democratic principles and humanity in Iran and the world community" has about $3k in net assets and no income. (The 990s can be found at the Foundation Center's 990 Finder).

Seems to me that Prince Reza is a big phony who is more interested in cultivating his image in high society than helping needy Iranians. Just the kind of guy you want running a troubled country.

If you are interested in the doings of Reza's spoiled rotten wife and his siblings, visit the Royal Forums for a chuckle. The folks over there stay on top of those royals!

Those Iranians youths supposedly so enamored with the Pahlavis are being taken for a ride. The Pahlavis ought to make the financial statements of the Pahlavi Foundation public if they want to return to Iran. After all, the money was looted from the Iranian treasury in the first place. Hmm...what would Ledeen say about that?

(I sure hope these html tags work since I put in so many! My apologies if they don't.)

Oops! I found more info about the Pahlavi Foundation on AlltheWeb.com and I was wrong. The Iranian government took over the assets of the foundation from the Shah in 1980.

The successor to the Pahlavi Foundation in the US is the Alavi Foundation. Alavi's 990s are available online at the 990 Finder linked in my comment above. Alavi's major asset is a 60% partnership interest in a Fifth Ave building worth $89 million.

I still don't know where Reza Pahlavi has his money or how much he has. I assumed billions but I could very well be wrong. Maybe Pahlavi needs to go back to Iran and loot the treasury to keep up his lavish lifestyle?

C.R., Over at the TPM Cafe, Mrs Panstreppon (me) has an interesting take on Thomas Kontogiannis, the man from Glen Head, Long Island who bribed Duke Cunningham. More light is shed on the Gargano-Ackerman-Eagle Buildings story. Click here for the link. Laura Rozen linked to my comment yesterday from War and Piece.

Josh Marshall has moved the Daily Muck to his new site, TPMMuckraker.com which does not allow comments from the readers. I'm not sure where to post mine now. I guess I could try another personal blog at the TPM Cafe but my last one as 277fia had to be deleted due to two complaints. Even Josh's lawyer got involved.

Speaking of Laura Rozen and War and Piece, I sent her an email yesterday and got TWO responses from the same address, lkrozen@attglobal.net. Each response had a copy of my letter.

One email had misspellings and grammatical errors so I know Laura didn't write it. The time of the letter indicates that it came from a different time zone. I saved both emails in case anyone was interested.

I assume that Laura's mail is being intercepted in some way. For the life of me, I don't know why anyone would send me a response by pretending to be her. Here's the response from Obvious Fake:

very interesting what you've found to the horse stuff.....

my goodness, new york politics may national politics look squeaky clean!

still tammeny hall, huh?

LOL - A couple of months ago, my laptop was hacked. I swear someone was trying to edit my posts.

Seriously, Josh Marshall should provide a mailing address if he seriously wants hot tips. I bet his email is monitored and the US Post is still the most secure way to transmit info.

I wish someone would follow me around the internet. I've been trying to get someone to pay attention to me for four years now.

Mr. Realist (or is it Mr. Cunning?): a quick note to say that I absolutely love your blog. Your "PIA" updates are a lonely attempt to bring some sanity into the Iran discussion. Politically, you are exactly (and consistently) what you say you are- a realist. And, thank god, you write well! Please keep up the good work.

One more comment about Reza Pahlavi and I swear, that's it. I didn't see the link to the rest of his website last night when I visited the home page. I stopped by today and Pahlavi's site is a hoot.

According to his bio, Pahlavi, 45, finished law school and never did anything else until he began his "Overthrow An Ayotollah" campaign.

The dates and locations of his speeches and interviews are listed on a dropdown box on the site. The guy's averaging a grueling three days a month on the job.

We are talking major loser here.

Analogy Alert
Mussolini's granddaughter, Alessandra Mussolini, was elected to the Italian Parliament as a member of MSI, the heir to the Fascist party. I guess this means the Iranians will be looking to Reza's kids.

C.R., My dilemma is so funny that I just have to share it with you. In one of my comments above, I wrote that I received two replies to an email I sent to Laura Rozen at War and Piece about Thomas Kontogiannis, the man from Long Island who bribed Duke Cuningham.

Both emails were from lkrozen@attglobal.net and both emails had a copy of my original email attached. One of them had misspelllings and grammatical errors and a time stamp indicating time sent several hours ahead of EST.

Here is what I think is the real email from Laura Rozen:

"Thanks for this! Amazing legwork. I just can't figure out what Kontogiannis really is. Is this all about personal enrichment or all of these companies fronts he's helping perhaps someone else out with too? best
Laura

Here is the email from Obvious Fake:

"very interesting what you've found to the horse stuff.....

my goodness, new york politics may national politics look squeaky clean!

still tammeny hall, huh?"

Today, I sent an email to Laura Rozen at laura@warandpiece.com and told her about the two replies. This is the response I got back with a time stamp a few hours ahead of EST:

"yes, they were both me!

LOL! How the heck am I supposed to know if that email came from Laura Rozen or not? I've sent her interesting items in the past and never got a response so now I don't know if she ever got my emails.

Today, I wanted to let her know that I added another comment with more info about Kontogiannis in the TPM Cafe but why bother if the email won't reach her?

So what do you think, C.R.? Can Laura spell Tammany or not? Does she really think NY politics make national politics look squeaky clean? That Laura Rozen seems to have missed my point about Gargano who is a Bush pioneer and Gary Ackerman who is a Democratic congressman from Queens.

Anyone who reads Elizabeth Busmiller knows about Gargano and Karl Rove on a side street in lower Manhattan on the day that the president came to the WTC. If I remember correctly, Bush appointed Gargano to a national board of tourism, probably so Charlie could get free stuff like trips. Charlie's no local stumble bum, that's for sure.

Maybe there were a lot of locals involved in Eagle Building Technologies - Gargano, Ackerman, Molinari, Gejdenson and so on. But Andros Development International (see sunbiz.org) was truly international. Gene Breham is a San Antonio accountant who raises limousin cattle. Sir Orville Runquest is the former governor of the Bahamas. Lord Charles Spencer Churchill is just that, a lord. Alfred V. Greco is a NYC lawyer linked to the penny stock business.

And James "Cary" Parrish, former Andros president and director, got four years for stock fraud. Parrish is the former president of Sealant Solutions, formerly UC NWIN and Winners Edge Com and now Powerchannel. In 2002, Sealant had only one major transaction with Parrish at the helm. Parrish placed $250k of worthless Sealant stock privately and then promptly invested the money in IFG Goldstar Cement, a front for Buck Showalter, a notorius stock swindler who should have his lights punched out for wasting the SEC's valuable time.

Charlie Gargano was an investor in Sealant, according to a terrific New York Times story by Leslie Eaton in August 2002. An earlier NYT story in, I think, 1995, noted that Gargano was trading $250k in the market in 1992. Not only did Gargano serve as a director of Eagle and Andros while serving the public, he served as a director of Winners All, which became Urecoats and is now IFT.

Anthony M. D'Amato, former president of Eagle Building Technologies, previously was an "investor" in Sealant Solutions at one point. Read the early SEC Sealant filings for some of D'Amato's eyebrow-raising transactions. The contract with a company named vanAar stands out in mind. D'Amato ultimately got nine years for stock fraud and is currently serving his sentence in South Carolina.

Eagle was more than just a NY penny stock sham. Two Saudis, a Yasser Zaidan and an Ahood Sharbatly were inside traders. Both men were inside traders on at least one other penny stock swindle - Cardinal something off the top of my head.

According to an early press release, Eagle also had a connection to a crooked member of the Kahshoggi family (Aren't they all!). The press release was issued under Eagle's former name, Eagle Capital. This Khashoggi was supposed to invest in Eagle through an outfit named Shemano but got bagged for passing a bad Citicorp check in the millions in Egypt.

I think I better stop here. I could take up all of your blog with the info I have on Eagle related stuff. I even wrote to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation about spermicide and a penny stock company named Paligent, indirectly linked to Gargano through Richard Kurtz in mid-2003.

Paligent was linked to Dr. Lindsay Rosenwald who was also on the board of Indevus. I was concerned about a $500k "licensing"
agreement between Paligent and Indevus involving spermicide.
About two months after my letter to the Gates Foundation, Rosenwald and Alexander Haig mysterioulsy resigned from the Indevus board in, I htink, August 2003. Who knows? Maybe there really was something funny going on between Paligent and Indevus.

I spent two years on and off compiling this sort of info and it was not too hard once I got the hang of it (You or anyone else are welcome to it, btw.) For example, John Rowland, convicted former governor of CT, made $26k trading Edulink, another bogus penny stock company. Howard Ash, an Edulink director, became a director of Eagle.

I certainly let time get away from me today. So what do you think, Laura or no? If it's not Laura and her email is being intercepted, how do I tell her? Hopefully, she googles her names once in awhile and then maybe this comment will show up.

Oops! Sir Orville Turnquest was a director of Andros Development International. I forgot to mention Iraklis Fedlitz, a mysterious Greek who is somehow involved with the Onassis estate.

I saved all of the Andros web pages I found in the wayback machine but the one that had Fedlitz's bio was missing. His name was spelled two different ways on the Andros website and I never any info about him searching under both spellings.

I personally observed the existence of the Andros office on Sample Road in Coral Springs FL but was too chicken to go in and ask for info. At the time, I was callling Charlie Gargano a no-good, mobbed-up crook in the now-defunct NY Times Abuzz forum and the now-defunct Cooperative Research's People's Investigation of 9/11 forum so I thought I should be a little cautious.

Add the unnamed source in this BBC article, "The US said Iran had enough nuclear material for 10 atomic bombs and it was time for the Security Council to act."
The context of the article implies it was Assistant Secretary of State Nicholas Burns, but can't really tell.

I forgot to clarify that the Molinari here is Robert Molinari.
According to Yahoo, Robert Molinari, an Eagle employee, reported on 12/10/2000 that he planned to sell 24,833 shares of Eagle stock for estimated proceeds of $244,605.

The problem is that Eagle never reported a Robert Molinari being an executive and to get that many shares with Eagle's short existence of two years, you'd have to be one.

According to a 1995 Newsday article by Sidney Schanberg, Robert is Guy's older, gay brother. The gay part was brought up because Guy had taken a vicious swipe at Karen Burstein for being a lesbian and Robert criticized Guy for it.

At the time of Schanberg's article, Guy Molinari had declined the postion of executive director of the Port Authority. Schanberg called Molinari a "hack with a gutter mentality".

Look who did end up at the Port Authority with oversight for security at NYC airports and ports - Charlie Gargano. I used to be a busgirl at Orlando's Ristorante in Huntington on Long Island circa 1980 and I can person
ally attest that Gargano was on a first-name basis with Tony "Ducks" Corallo and Neil Migliore of the Lucchese crime family.

Too bad Newsday's online archives only extend back to 1985. Newsday's coverage of the $2 billion Suffolk County Southwest Sewer District scandal is fascinating. You can still find
the Newsday's sewer articles on microfiche over at places like C. W. Post and the Lindenhurst library.

In 1992, Gargano "bought" property from the Cornerstone Group, a real estate development company headed by his business partner, Mario Posillico in Martin County, FL. One of the other buyers was Carmine Avellino, Sal's brother. Sal, of course, was convicted in the Kubecka murder and had to sell his interest in a carting company for $20 million. To who, I don't know. Sal was another member of the Lucchese (also Luchese) family.

LOL - If you visit the Martin County clerk's website and search for "Posillico Dominic", you get a copy of his divorce decree which lists some of the Posillico holdings. Gargano is a partner in at least some of the investments.

The Cornerstone Group engaged in some strange business practices and it's hard to tell who made money. A lot of the buyers are politically or otherwise connected folks from Suffolk County.

Without looking at my notes, I think Gargano bought his Cornerstone lot in 1992 for $170k. He sold it back to Cornerstone in 1997 for $90k. Cornerstone then sold it to a Piccolo for $80k.

The owner of Suffolk rehab centers who gets county business and whose name, I think, is George Benedict, bought four lots for $75k a piece and then sold three lots back to
Cornerstone for $15k each. Uh?

Personally, I'm not so sure that it's a good idea to have someone connected to the mob at the helm of the Port Authority. Even your everyday corruption gets swept under the rug. I think it is either the Staten Island Advance or the Register that was reporting on fraud at the Howland Hook Terminal. Hear anything about it lately?

Everyone knows that cocaine comes up on the Ecuadorian banana boat twice a week. The boat stops in Panama and then proceeds to NYC. That should be a gimme for the DEA but it isn't. Remember the DEA's last big case? Try Pablo Escobar in 1993.

Jerry Capeci owns the Gangland News website and is former reporter for the NY Daily News (whose archives are chock-a-block full of mob info). In the January issue of New York magazine, he reported that Neil Migliore, Lucchese capo, is still very active, whatever that means. I know he used to have business at the airports. So is Charlie going to help bust an old friend and business associate?

On the other hand, I met Migliore when I worked at Orlando's. He is very, very intelligent and if I needed someone to help me investigate aspects of 9/11 that the FBI couldn't, I'd ask him for help. His grandchildren could have been on a school trip to the WTC as well as anyone else's.

LOL - I picked Migliore out as the role model for Tony Soprano even before I read that the Sopranos writer used to live in Oyster Bay where Migliore lives. Rose, his wife, is every bit as nice as Carmella. And the Migliores have a daughter and a younger son, just like the show.

Well, here I am rambling on C.R.'s dime again. You'd think I have the mafia on my brain 24/7 the way I rattle on about it.

As long as I rambling on, I might as well let off steam about our two "illustrious" senators from New York who are forever making a big deal about port security. Neither Chuck or Hillary has
ever questioned the integrity, or even the judgment, of the man most responsible for port security in New York State.

Charlie Gargano joined the Eagle Building Technologies board of directors in either April or June 2000, depending on the source. Around the same time, Eagle made its first contribution to the Republicans by donating to George Pataki's fund.

Between Eagle and its subsidiaries and Anthony M. D'Amato and his wife, Gabriella, more than $230k was donated to the Republicans by 2001. By contrast, Eagle donated about $15k to the Democrats.

D'Amato and his wife flew to Washington by private jet to attend the Governors Ball during the first Bush inauguration at the invitation of Gov. Pataki. Remember, Gargano was already was on the board of directors in January 2001.

I never did find out about D'Amato's background. In SEC filings, he reported that he attended C W Post in Greenvale Long Island but then I read that he changed that story. The only Anthony M. D'Amato I found on Long Island was in Newsday. This D'Amato had applied for a license for that strip club on the corner fo Routes 107 and 110 in Farmingdale.

His wife, Gabriella, was an officer and director of REI Enterprises, according to sunbiz.org. REI listed Venezuela as its address which I thought was interesting. Gabriella and other two other D'Amatos only took over REI in 1999. The officers prior to that all had other Florida business interests, mostly in cash ones.

Prior to taking over Eagle, D'Amato had been involved with Sealant Solutions, formerly known as UC NWIN and Winners Edge Com. It is now Powerchannel. His bio in SEC filings indicate that he previously was involved in prepaid phone cards, a fairly reliable indication of organized crime.

According to the Eaton story in the NYT, Charlie was a shareholder in Sealant. Going back really far in the Sealant SEC filings, I found a reference to a Lauder Investments. Maybe, maybe not.

I've already touched on the former president of Sealant, James "Cary" Parrish. There were two other shareholders, Edward Fasci Jr. and his father, Edward W. Fasci Sr. I'm not sure if the bios are true but Junior owns Process Engineering Services in Massachusetts, which makes pollution recovery equipment.

Senior is the more interesting of the two. From Sealant's 10-K:"Fasci has served as Chief Executive Officer, President,
Vice-president and Director for various companies in the electronics, computer,
and international consulting industries. As Director of Operation for AMARTECH,
Ltd., Mr. Fasci was responsible for growing the company into the largest Meteorological and Environmental contractor in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As
CEO and President of Technology World, Inc., Mr. Fasci was responsible for several large government contracts with the U.S. Navy, Royal Saudi Air Force,
and the Government of Malaysia. Mr. Fasci has more than 30 years experience in consulting and contracting with both government and private industry."

During the time Charlie was an Eagle director, Eagle, under its old name, Eagle Capital, issued a flurry of press releases which indicated that it was doing business in Russia, China, India, Mexico, South Africa, Yugoslavia, Saudi Arabia and a few other places.

In May 2001, Eagle filed an 8-K in which it announced that it had purchased 85% of Master's, an Italian company that manufactured bombproof doors in April 2001. In August of the prior year, Eagle had issued a press release statign that it had acquired Business Dimensions, a US company that held the distribution rights to Master's high security doors.

In August 2000, Eagle announced the appointment of Wilfred (Bill) G. Mango to Chief Operating Officer. Mango was the former chairma and CEO of the Fuller
Group and its subsidiary, the George A. Fuller Company, an international construction firm.

In February 2001, Eagle announced a joint real estate development deal with Fuller Development Ltd., a subsidiary of George A. Fuller.
Fuller Development was named as an advisor to the City of Moscow in connection with the development of a new business district.

I have more comments about Mr. Mango of Wilton CT and his Eagle employment agreement under the name MAG Consulting but I'll save it for later.

Also in February 2001, Eagle announced that Sam Gejdenson, former Democratic congressman from
CT, would be its "VP of Governmental Affairs to the Board of Directors". Gejdenson had served as the ranking Democrat on the Committee on International Relations. Foxwoods Casino was in Sam's old district, btw.

Also in February 2001, Meyer Berman became a director. Berman is a prominent financier with an estimated fortune of $400 million. He was a big contributor to the Democratic Party and attended two state dinners at the White House during the Clinton adminstration.

Eagle at some point moved into offices in a building owned by Berman in Boca Raton. Rent was $20k per month. Berman later claimed that he met D'Amato on a plane and was impressed enough to invest in Eagle and join the board. Yeah, right - that's how successful investors always do it.

Berman, btw, was a director on the board of IDT, the telecom company. Boy, do I have a telecom story.
As another aside, Berman lives in a Boca high rise which is under his wife's name.

By the time Meyer Berman joined the Eagle Board, he already had invested in Biosterile Technologies along with Albert Reichmann of Olympia & Yorke and Arthur H. Goldberg of Integrated Resources and some other top shelf names.

Biosterile was so screwed up, it deserves its own post. The company, started by former members of the military, never had a product that actually worked yet it had Russian scientists on board in Russia, was listed in a Navy catalogue and sat on the board of an airline safety group, the National Safe Skies Alliance, for starters. Berman planned to take Biosterile public.

After 9/11, of course, Eagle spent the next three months touting its anti-terrorism equipment in Washington while its stock soared from $3 to $13.

Back to Charlie Gargano. After the Eagle scandal broke in March 2001, Gargano claimed that he resigned from the Eagle board on October 12, 2001. Apparently, no one thought to ask him why he resigned. If he thought that fraud was being committed, he never told the SEC. Someone else did.

So did Charlie really resign? Hard to say. There was no press release to that effect but then again, no press release was issued announcing his appointment to the Eagle board either, as far as I know.

What I have never been able to find out is whether Charlie Gargano profited from Eagle's soaring stock price after 9/11. According to SEC documents, he would have been entitled to something like at least 60,000 shares after one year of service. If the shares were pro-rated, he could have made as much as a million bucks on lies about 9/11.

I can't begin to tell you how offended I am at the thought of the vice chairman of the NY-NJ Port Authority making dirty money off a pile of dead bodies buried under the rubble of the WTC. For more than two years, I have been trying to find out if Gargano cashed in his Eagle options. Megaditto for Sam Gejdenson who was born in 1948 in a displaced persons camp in Germany and never lets anyone forget it.

I still wonder what business Anthony M. D'Amato really was after when he made those contributions to the Republicans.
Eagle was listed in the top ten construction company donors in the 2000-2001 cycle for awhile and then the entry was removed. I assume Eagle's donation was returned by the Republicans but I don't know that. We all know that Republicans look after their supporters so Karl Rove must have known what Eagle was about somewhere in his super database.

Did the Port Authority ever do business with Biosterile or Eagle?
I don't know if anyone in the press ever thought to ask that question which would have been obvious to me.

Was cash running through Eagle's bank accounts to or from Russia? A May 21, 2001 Eagle press release announced that Eagle had signed a joint venture agreement with DSK-6, a Russian company based in St. Petersburg. Bill Mango, Jr. was quoted in it as saying that "Superior technologies with easy applications make for easy negotiations". Did a guy with Mango's credentials lie outright about a deal in Russia?

Senators Schumer and Clinton should have demanded Gargano's resignation on the grounds that if he wasn't a crook, he was incompetent. Here's a guy with all of the resources he needs in the world to check on his business associates and he ends up with a company marketing fake anti-terrorism equipment after 9/11.

What else is going on at the Port Authority? I know that Mario Posillico and his family are awarded contracts under various company names. The AirTrain was $500 million over budget for no good reason. And I suspect the Port Authority's private payment system designed to "streamline" paperwork and expedite payments for between Port Authoirty customers obfuscates certain transactions for tax and other reasons.

Did you ever read about the Port Authority teleport that was sold to AT&T in the mid-90s for $11 billion? How much did the teleport cost to build in the first place? Was $11 billion a fair price? Where did the $11 billion go? If I ever had the chance, I'd ask Guy Tozzoli a whole lot of questions.

Well, it's getting late and I've let off as much steam about corruption in New York as I am going to tonight. Boy, did I really go on this time.

I can't sleep so I'm going to write a little bit more about New York politics. You're too young to remember the tragic NYC heroin epidemic of the '70s, C.R. but I do. I was there.

For a little more than a year in the early '70s, I had a Jewish boyfriend from the Lower East Side who was a junkie. He sold pot and LSD to support his habit and wouldn't have swatted a fly. I couldn't inject myself so he did it.

Once I lost the boyfriend, my dope days were over. By 1975, I stopped doing drugs altogether and skipped the blizzard of coke in the '80s that everyone on Wall Street was got caught in. Did you ever notice that Studio 54 never got busted despite the fact that everyone knew a mountain of coke was consumed there on a nightly basis?

Back to the heroin epidemic. In the '70s, NYC was a mess fiscaly and otherwise. The social and economic toll from the flood of cheap heroin into the city was staggering and the misery knew no end. Poor neighborhoods were destroyed wholesale and the kids were dropping dead with needles in their arms. Even in the better neigborhoods, the residents were getting mugged and murdered.

The heroin was being imported into the US from southeast Asia. I suspect the CIA had a hand in that end of the business since no one ever got caught bringing large amounts of heroin in from Asia. Heroin became more available in NYC in the '60s just when the US stepped up its presence there. The mafia was the middleman who then re-sold the dope to local dealers.

The most famous and successful of the local dealers is a black man named Nicky Barnes. Google "Nicky Barnes" and read Jerry Capeci's take on Barnes for an interesting slice of NY life.

All through the '60s and the '70s, Nicky Barnes sold heroin in NYC. Think about a black man living in a mansion, owning several luxury automobiles, wearing very expensive but flashy clothes and selling heroin for a living. And for twenty years, no one stopped him while NYC was systematically destroyed by heroin. Barnes was known as "Mr. Untouchable".

Finally, Barnes did get busted in the late '70s and got a life sentence. When he heard that his wife and girlfriend were hooked on heroin four years later, he freaked about his kids being left with them. He was inspired to cooperate with the D.A. and was responsible for the conviction of 40 drug dealers. He helped end the NYC heroin epidemic. In 1998, Baarnes was released from prison and went into the witness protection program.

During the '60s, it was fashionable for liberals from the northeast to go down south and fight for civil rights for black people. But when black people, and especially black children, were being assaulted every day in the backyards of those same very socially minded liberals, they pretended not to notice.

Think about the indifference of the NYC politicians to the destruction caused every day by Nicky Barnes for twenty years. And where were the police? You know Nicky Barnes had to have been paying the politicians and the police off but no one ever got caught.

So what did the mayors and the police commissioners charge for every dead junkie that Nicky Barnes sold heroin to? Could they sleep at night knowing that their wallets were full but some old lady was going to get her head bashed in by a strung out junkie any minute?

What I am trying to get at is the depraved indifference to human life in NYC in the '70s from the very same people who were supposed to take care of New York City. I can't think of a better way to explain how corruption destroys society than to say that Nicky Barnes sold heroin for twenty years and no stopped him.

We don't have a heroin epidemic in NYC but we have corruption on the grandest scale since Tammany Hall. No one seems to give a shit anymore. I've already explained why the Port Authority can't be doing its job.

New York is critically dependent on the financial markets for tax revenue and instead of cleaning up the over-the-counter markets, I think Wall Street decided to emulate the mob. A lot of other cities would jump at the chance to take away our financial business and if Wall Street isn't policed, it's going to happen.

Start taking at look at where Charlie Gargano has spent NYS economic development money in the last ten years. For example, I think $400 million went to build a nanotechnology center upstate. Albany, maybe? Is it being used by any businesses that actually employ people? Is it being used, period?

I know he adds an addition on to the "biotech" center at SUNY Farmingdale every time he wants to throw his business partner, Mario Posillico, a few million. Next time I go by there, I'll stick my head in and see how many tenants are listed just out of curiosity.

To show how blatant the corruption is in NYS, here's a litle story.

From the 7/9/03 edition of Suffolk Life, a Long Island weekly newspaper:

"The town of Huntington received a grant from New York State in the amount of $200,000 to be used in the management of the shore by the Long Island North Shore Heritage Area, which was established by the New York State Legislature in 1998, according to Resolution 2003-456. The town accepted the money via the resolution and then turned over $195,000 to Peter Smith & Company, of Buffalo, NY for management services, according to Resolution 2003-457."

The town of Huntington has no fathomable reason for paying $195k to a consultant in Buffalo for advice about its shoreline. The payment is a payoff to someone and the town of Huntington is the conduit to launder the money. Huntington gets to keep $5k for passing on $195k.

My guess is that Peter Smith is the Peter Smith who is president of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYERDA). The money probably came from the Empire State Development Authority of which Charlie Gargano is the president.

There you have it, folks. Right out in the open, corruption, and no one does a damned thing about it. Read about in the paper - the crooks don't even bother to try and hide it anymore.

Elliot Spitzer is a joke. I read that he says he "doesn't do Pataki". If I know what Gargano is up to, think about what Spitzer knows and he never says a word about it. Spitzer is a Democrat and Gargano is a Republican and yet Spitzer or Alan Hevesi, for that matter, has never tried to make political hay out of Gargano's corruption.

The NYC papers are no better. In December 2003, the papers were making a big deal about trips that Pataki took on Earl Mack's private jet. I wrote to the NYT and the NY Post and politely pointed out that Charlie Gargano had gotten at least a 50% discount on a Palm Beach luxury condo in 2002 from Fred Mack, Earl's brother.

At the time, the Port Authority was considering whether to spend a lot of money to extend rail tracks to the Meadowlands which would benfit Mack-Cali Realty which was developing a new sports and entertainment center there.

I found a record of the condo sale in the Palm Beach property assessor's website. I checked the Palm Beach clerk's website and found a record of the $300k mortgage that Gargano took out three months after he closed on the condo but I have no idea if any cash ever changed hands.

The condo went for $600k, according to the property assessor. But I checked the asking prices of other units in the same building that I found online and the prices were considerably higher. It's hard to gauge the market price of the condos from the property assessor's records because many of them are passed on from one generation to the next.

I did discover that a former Nassau County treasurer, John Scaduto, bought a condo from Fred Mack in the same building a couple of years earlier for $125k. A real bargain. After his retirement from Nassau County in 1992, Scaduto became an attorney with Nixon Peabody.

I thought that this condo business looked suspiciously like a bribe but apparently no one else did. BTW, Fred Mack owns another unit right next to Charlie's. Bets that Pataki buys it for a discount the first winter he is out of office?

I believe the Macks did get their railriad tracks and Earl Mack did become ambassador to Finland. Why Finland, I don't know yet.

Anyway, that's enough for now. I'm always railing about tax cheats but it's kind of hard to expect anyone to voluntarily pay for the crap that is going on in NYS. I'd rather rip up my hard-earned money than put it in Charlie's pocket.

Next up: Intelli-Check. Charlie Gargano uses Empire State Development funds, i.e. yours and my tax dollars, to buy 6% of a bogus company traded on the Amex that never has nor never will make money.

Sigh. Pataki and Gargano are going to get away with running the state right into the ground and stealing everything that's not nailed down. What do you think Spitzer has learned from all of this? Crime does pay?

Iranian sailors trained at Great Lakes when I was there. It seemed strange to walk into an office and see a portrait of the Shah of Iran.
The man did look impressive in full uniform and a chest full of medals he probably didn't earn.

Gus, I remember seeing photos of the Shah in Life magazine. He certainly was handsome and sophisticated but I had no idea that he was a corrupt dictator nor did I have a clue about Muslims.

The Middle East certainly has had its share of handsome leaders - Gamil Nasser, Saddam Hussein and Omar Khaddafi who still is not bad looking. Who did I miss?

Getting back to Eagle Building Technologies, Robert P. Kornahrens became a director in April 2000 around the same time as Gargano. Kornahrens owns Advance Roofing, a big commercial roofing company in Fort Lauderdale. Advance does government work but does not appear to depend on it.

According to his bio in SEC filings, Kornahrens was employed by Triple M Roofing in New York prior to 1983. Kornahrens is not a common name and there are Kornahrens in business on Long Island.

Sunbiz.org lists Herman Kornahrens as an officer of Garsite International in Deer Park until 1987. I checked the Garsite website but I don't think the Kornahrens own the company anymore.

There are more than 30 companies registered to Robert Kornahrens. LOL - Hacienda Hooker and Flight by Night are two of them.

Architectural Roofing Consultants was part of one version of the Eagle website so Kornahrens appears to have taken an active role in Eagle's business in some fashion.

In an aborted August 2000 SB-2 registration statement, Eagle claimed that Kornahrens made a short term loan of $500k to the company during the period ended June 30, 2000. The problem with any info in Eagle SEC filings is that you have no idea if any of it is even halfway true.

$500k is a lot of money to lend to a startup company with only a $225k line of credit personally guaranteed by the president.

On the other hand, Kornahrens was listed as a private seller of Eagle stock on Yahoo on February 7, 2002. He planned to sell 71,668 shares for estimated proceeds of $530,343.

I have to stop here. I never found any other info about Kornahrens. He doesn't seem to have been involved in any other publicly traded company. I don't know how he got hooked up with Eagle but $500k is a lot of cash to lend even on a short term basis.

Is C.R. drinking pina coladas on a tropical island this week? He seems to have vanished from the internet.

I've been thinking - I hope none of the crackpot conspiracy theorists read my comments about Neil Migliore and think they can call him up for advice about 9/11 because someone online thought it was a good idea. That's NOT a good idea.

I'm also thinking that I've been pretty darned rude to a man I haven't seen or spoken to in twenty-five years. If Mr. Migliore googles his own name, he probably will read my comments and, dollars to doughnuts, he will figure out who's talking about him. Orlando's only had two busgirls and I'm pretty sure he'll know Dale's not the one doing the yakking.

I have a big mouth online but I'm sort of shy in person. I don't think I could just call Mr. Migliore on the phone and say "Hi! What was your impression of the 9/11 attacks? Do you think it came off the way the government said it did?"

I want to be very clear here. I have absolutely no interest in any of Mr. Migliore's business, legal or otherwise. If he is involved in illegal activities, doing something about it is the FBI's job, not mine. I'm only interested in his opinion about 9/11 and if he thinks there is more to the "official" story.

If I were doing my own "9/11 investigation" which I'm not, I'd like to be able to ask Mr. Migliore questions about how to do something I normally wouldn't do or who is an expert in certain fields that aren't listed in the Yellow Pages. I would think that he knows who is really on top of security at the airports and who could answers questions.

His Florida telephone number is listed so that's no problem. I imagine he's there now. Anyone from New York who can swing it spends as much of the winter in Florida as possible.

Mr. Migliore's hobby is racing pigeons. His name shows up on racing pigeon sites when you search it. I don't know much about racing pigeons but all different kinds of people are enthusiasts and they come from all over the world. I'm curious as to whether Mr. Migliore keeps his pigeons in the backyard or what.

The last time I searched "Neil Migliore", I found a racing pigeon site with a message from Neil Migliore to the owner of the site to call him. Mr. Migliore left his cell phone number online so he's not exactly hiding out from the Feds these days.

As I noted in an earlier post, I think the creator of the Sopranos knows Mr. Migliore. What I'd like to know is whether Mr. Migliore was consulted on the scripts. I thought from the beginning that the show was meant to tell the viewer about how organized crime operates in real life. Remember the early episode about the Hassidics? And the one about the prepaid phone cards? That one I found to be particularly informative.

Now I'm wondering if Jerry Capeci's info about Mr. Migliore is on the money. His name is not in Newsday these days. A couple of years ago, I re-read a Newsday article about him from the mid-1990s. The reporter asked Mr. Migliore about someone else taking over the job as head of the Lucchese (Luchese)family. Mr. Migliore said the guy was welcome to it and the twenty years that went with it. Sounded like a guy ready to retire to me.

Mr. Neil (Dale made me call him that. Why, I don't know.)used to come to Orlando's with his wife, Rose, and his boss, Tony "Ducks" Corallo and his wife, Lucille. They always sat at the last table near the kitchen and the cappucino machine and everyone who worked at Orlando's called it the
"googenzeals' table". I'm not sure about the spelling but it translates to the "eggplants' table". I never thought to ask why eggplant.

Without thinking, I once asked Mr. Migliore what business he was in. He looked at me funny for a moment like he couldn't believe what he was hearing and then told me he was in the garment business. Which was fine with me.

After I left Orlando's, I went to graduate school in Greenvale on 25A. One morning, I stopped at the Howard Johnson's in East Norwich for coffee. I ran into Tony Ducks who gave me a smile and a great big kiss. Later on, I realized that the FBI probably was following him around and I wondered whether I made the FBI's report. Tee, hee.

Unfortunately for Tony Ducks, the FBI secretly bugged his Jaguar in a somewhat famous case here on Long Island. Tony Ducks was convicted in 1986 and went to prison for the rest of his life where he died in 2000. I felt sad when I read about his death and wondered whether Tony Ducks thought his financial success was worth giving up his last years on earth with his family and friends.

What is important about the Tony Ducks case is that our system of law worked the way it was supposed to work. When Tony Ducks broke the law, he knew the consequence if he was caught. He was willing to risk his freedom for a lot of money.

The FBI gathered evidence against Tony Ducks fair and square and Tony Ducks got the trial he was entitled to. He paid a steep price for his crimes but Tony Ducks was treated the same as every other American citizen who breaks the law. No better, no worse and that's the way it is supposed to be.

I'm going to stop here. I'm kind of worn out from thinking so much and I need a break. Definitely not the time to make any decisions about anything.

Hey! I just found more information about another Eagle director, Andros Savvides. Savvides became a director in November 1999. According to his bio in an Eagle 10-K, "Savvides is one of the founders of Excel Group Inc. a large New York Construction and Engineering firm founded in 1988. Mr. Savvides is a leader in many cutting edge industry trends and this company is one of the few ISO-9000 certified companies in the construction industry. Mr. Savvides received his B.A. in Computer Science/Business from C.W.
Post College in 1995."

I never found much information about Savvides nor the Excel Group I guessed Savvides was a friend of D'Amato's and D'Amato had trumped up his resume. According to Yahoo, Savvides planned to sell 29,167 shares of Eagle stock on 8/1/01 for estimated proceeds of $212,919.

I checked AlltheWeb.com and found this notice from the US Department of Transportation:

Item: New York Man Arrested for DBE Fraud on $37.9 Million DOT Funded Project

Date: November 16, 2004

Type: Investigation

Summary: Andre Savvides of NY, owner and officer of EXCEL, Mineola, NY, was charged in U.S. District Court in Islip, NY with conspiring with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) subcontractors to create false DBE documentation for submission to the NYS Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The MTA awarded EXCEL a $37.9 million federally funded project to rehabilitate the Broadway/East New York Subway Complex based on the false documentation. Subsequent to receiving the award, Savvides created additional false documentation in an effort to uphold the appearance of meeting its DBE requirements. This investigation was conducted by the Federal Construction Task Force, Long Island, NY, which includes OIG.

Andros and Andre Savvides are either one and the same person or related. I don't know when this particular contract was awarded but Charlie Gargano had no business being on the board of directors along with a major NYS contractor doing business with NYS.

The NYS Secretary of State corporate database is down at the moment but I found a reference online to a Michael Savvides with SKS in NYC.

So far, I've identified three major contractors associated with Eagle Building: The Fuller Group, the Excel Group and Advance Roofing.

Meyer Berman, an Eagle director, invested in Biosterile in either late 2000 or early 2001, based on the change in Biosterile's website. I have the web pages, btw.

According to its pre-9/11 website,
Biosterile was selling sterilization equipment and cargo screening equipment. After 9/11, Eagle tried to sell Biosterile's products to the federal government.

I'm not exactly sure how this happened but somehow the information that Biosterile's anti-terrorism products did not work and that Biosterile did not have the capacity to manufacture them became public. I might go back and look over my documentation to refresh my memory on this pont.

If Biosterile's products did not work after 9/11, they did not work before 9/11. So what exactly was Biosterile selling and who were Biosterile's customers before 9/11?
More on Biosterile later.

I did an informal poll at dinner one night. I asked three people who do not invest in the stock market about penny stocks and all three knew the penny stock market is run by organized crime. Association with a penny stock company is a reflection of character, imho.

John Rowland, former governor and convicted felon, bought 25,000 shares of Edulink, a penny stock company in March 2000 for $13k. Within one week, he sold the stock and netted a $26k profit.
Someone told Rowland to buy Edulink. Rowland was bribed. But we do not know by who or why.

Howard Ash was an Eagle director from from April 2002 until December 2002. Ash also was an Edulink director. That's two penny stock companies that reflect on Howard Ash's character.

Here's the Ash bio from a 12/31/01 Eagle 10-K filed 8/29/02:

"From 2000 to present, Mr. Ash has been the Chairman of Claridge Management. Prior to Claridge Management, he served as the Chief Financial Officer of Ives Motors Corporation. From 1997 to present, Mr. Ash has been a
board member and Chief Operating Officer of BioCard Corporation. Mr. Ash also serves as a Director to Tudog Consulting and Computhelp (Compaq JV). Since 1992, Mr. Ash has served as a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer to a variety of prestigious, international companies, including Israel Export Development
and CITAmericas. Mr. Ash earned his Bachelor of Commerce with Honors in Accounting in 1982 from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa."

Here's Ash's bio from the now-defunct Edulink website:

"Business Developer-Howard. Co-founded Abrams, Ash & Associates, Merchant Bankers in 1990 and sold his shares in 1992. Since 1992 Howard has served as CEO, COO and CFO to a variety of high profile, international companies, including Israel Export Development Corporation, CITA Americas, BioCard, and IVES Motors. Successful achievements include marketing, planning and implementation in local and overseas markets, business and Internet strategies, corporate identity packages, investment banking liaisons and investor relations. Howard is actively involved in charity and has founded a Free Loan Society, and The Circle of Life Food Bank, which provides food to more than 200 families weekly."

Mr. Ash sounds like a very important man but I checked around awhile aback and I'm not so sure about that. Anyone interested in Ash's history should search his name at sunbiz.org where there is an entire page of companies and organizations registered to Howard Ash.

Ash is not, however, listed as an officer of Bio Card. Since Bio Card was listed in both bios, I looked for it. I think this is the Biocard website. Cheesy, imo. According to sunbiz.org, BioCard has been registered to Robert H. and Nilza S. Karl and Taffy Gould, all of Miami, for at least ten years.

The Israel Export Development Corporation (IEDC)was founded, I think, sometime in the eearly '90s and its purpose was to establish a free trade zone in the Israeli desert. Apparently, the project was controversial and I don't think it ever got off the ground. But $10 million was spent trying. My guess is at least some of that money came out of the pocket of the US taxpayer as it usually does whenever the Israelis are involved.

I don't have time to follow up on the IEDC but I did read that Larry Silverstein was president. Silverstein, of course, became the WTC landlord in the spring of 2001.

Tudog Consulting is a business consultant based in Fort Lauderdale which appears to focus on Israeli companies.

CITA Americas was a classic penny stock scam that claimed to be in the detox and rehab business. So now Ash is associated with three penny stock companies that reflect on his character.

Oddly enough, Howard Ash is not listed as an Edulink director in Edulink's 10-K but he is or was listed as one on Edulink's website. Edulink never made any money and, in its last SEC filing in 2004, disclosed the existence of - big surprise! - accounting problems.

As near as I can tell, Edulink raised millions and then squandered all of it. I was intrigued when I read about SAIC's Alliance Agreement with Edulink dated May 15, 2001 (see SEC - Edulink 10-K405 filed 5/14/02)in which they agreed to jointly investigate business opportunities involving the Edulink platform.

SAIC, of course, is Science Applications International Corporation, the huge contractor that provides all sorts of informational services to the government.

C.R., It's been awhile but went back and took a look at the Edulink web page with all of the bios of the directors, officers and advisors and boy, we are talking heavyweight intellectuals here. Yet Edulink was a sleazy penny stock jacked up so Gov. John Rowland could make a few bucks. What gives?

I'm going to list all of the people asscociated with Edulink but I'll skip the bios. Maybe you recognize some of them.

Here we go: Michael Rosenfeld, entertainment lawyer; Dr. Ronald Rescigno, former California public school superintendent; David Garland, Paramount executive; Ian Rescigno, ECO International (does business in Eastern Europe); Kathleen McGuire PhD, UCLA professor; Dorothy Tucker, two Ph.D.s, president of Families in New Directions; Dr. Boris Berenfeld, Ph.D. - Moscow U. in radiation and physics, Director of International Center, UNESCO advisor; Eric Ipsen, Psion, IBM; Professor Gary B. Nash, UCLA; Professor Christopher L. Slater, University of Missouri-Columbia, National Geographic Society; Linda Plattner, Associate Director for the Council for Basic Education; Steven Rizzi, SAIC leader of K-12 instructional technology; Dr. Ron Sacks-Davis, leader of Royal Malbourne Institute of Technology's Multi-media Database Systems laboratory; Tim Nelson, recognized expert, WWW technologies, DoD, CIA; Todd Bauman, Member of WWW Consortium spnsored by the DoD; Christopher T. Gentile, Executive Vice President of Creative Services at Viewpoint Corporation (formerly MetaCreations Corporation).

Edulink was allied with SAIC, UCLA, SoftQuad Software, Ltd., MC Squared Incorporated and Viewpoint Corporation.

Whew! See what I mean? LOL - I don't care what these characters have after their names. They were all being bribed with Edulink stock and probably by SAIC. I'm not a moron.

I tried to track down info about the Eagle inside traders. On 12/14/02, Brant Jones planned to sell 18,000 shares of Eagle stock for estimated proceeds of $155,700.

The only Brant Jones I could find assisted in the preparation of a report by the Defense Nuclear Safety Board on safety at the Hanford Facility dated March 5, 2001 in connection with the Hanford Spent Nuclear Fuel Project.

As I noted in an earlier comment, Gargano used NYS taxpaer funds to buy 6% of Intelli-Check,traded on Amex. Two insiders were Larry Darnall and Donald Baker. Between August and September 2001, they each sold about 1,750 shares of Inteeli-Check stock for $15k and $19k. Baker also sold shares of another penny stock for considerably more money.

I found a Larry Darnall, COO, and a Donald Baker, CAO, listed as recently retired employees of the Tennesse Valley Authority, Golden Pond which, I believe, is in Kentucky.

I know Bechtel Jacobs is involved at both the TVA - Golden Pond and and the Hanford nuclear facility in Washington state.

If SAIC and Bechtel, two major US contractors, paid bribes through penny stocks, we have a serious, serious problem in this country and it's not the mafia. Our safety is being compromised by the very same people who have been entrusted to safeguard it.

Everyone in organized crime knows what's going on and I'm sure a lot of them don't like it either. Who wants a corrupt FDA, for example? We'd all prefer to have our children take safe and effective drugs.

I don't know why this penny stock business wasn't addressed in the past. My guess is that it was hushed up because it was so widespread which means a lot of people are subject to blackmail. For starters, the guys who jack up the price of the penny stock know who got paid off.

I'm going to stop here but think about how corruption can affect your family's everyday life. Everyone in Harlem and Bed-Stuy knows how it works.

Remember my comment about the James A. Baker Institute report and nuclear plants? From what I read elsewhere, nuclear energy could be a safe and efficient source of energy. But do we want to rely on the Bechtels of the world to build safe nuclear plants ten years down the road if Bechtel is bribing federal safety regulators today?

Bruce P. Mauldin was another director appointed to the Eagle board after the scandal broke in March 2002. Before I post Mr. Mauldin's "official" Eagle bio, I want to tell you about his other life as a colonel in the Army.

In the November 22, 1987 New York Times Sunday Magazine, Seymour Hersh wrote a story entitled "Who's In Charege Here? - A Covert Unit Was Freewheeling, Hihg Spending And Top Secret - Until Scandal Struck". It is about how the Army's newly-formed Special Operations Division led by Army Colonel James E. Longhofer ran amuck in the early 1980s.

I can't access the NY Timmes archives at the moment to re-read the story but anyone interested in corruption and especially corruption in the military should read this story. Again, I haven't read it for a couple of years but basically, the Special Operations Division was formed to carry out covert operations in conjunction with the CIA.

Prior to the formation of the Special Operations Division, the Pentagon did not conduct covert operations. They were left to the CIA. The Special Operations Division was operating in South America from what I remember.

Colonel Longhofer never accounted to anyone for what he was doing. I remember reading that money disappeared and I think some of the operations were illegal.

Whatever the Special Operations Division was doing, it got caught by Congress. Apparently, no at the Pentagon told anyone in the Senate or the House about its operations.

According to Seymour Hersh, Colonel Bruce P. Mauldin, one of Longhofer's subordinates, explained "Our assumption was that we thought it was the CIA's responsibility to brief the intelligence committees."

I had the impression after reading the story that the Pentagon stopped engaging in covert operations after that fiasco but I don't thimk it's the case anymore. Secretary Rumsfeld seems to think he can do whatever he damned well pleases.

So here we have Bruce P. Mauldin, Eagle director, who, thanks to Seymour Hersh, we already know was involved in a corrupt Army covert operation.

Here's his bio from an Eagle 10-K:

BRUCE P. MAULDIN joined the Company as a Director in April, 2002. Mr. Mauldin founded Texas Airways, Inc., a Texas holding company and consulting group in 1988, and currently serves as its President. From May 1994 to September 1995, Mr. Mauldin was the Director of Strategic Planning at Dalfort Aviation. From October 1992 to October 1993, he was
the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SunAire Express, a commuter airline operating in the Caribbean. Mr. Mauldin has served over
thirty-five years in commercial and Army aviation in leadership
positions. Since founding Texas Airways, Mr. Mauldin has served as a consultant to the senior management of a number of major companies including Aerospatiale, Federal Express, Air France, Office General de l'Air, AOM French Airlines, TAT European Airlines, Heli-Union and
Offshore Logistics. Mr. Mauldin currently provides consulting services to Allied Energy Corporation and is a director of Allied Energy Columbia.
He also serves on the advisory board of directors of Viking Capital Group, a public company, and is a director of Pathway Ventures, Inc. Mr. Mauldin graduated with Honors from Auburn University with a Bachelor of
Science in Engineering with a concentration in Aviation Management in 1973. In addition, Mr Mauldin obtained his Masters in Political Science (Soviet Policy) from Auburn University in 1977. Mr. Mauldin is also an Honor Graduate of the U.S. Naval War College.

According to the state of Texas, Bruce P. Maudlin and Laurence M. Cotttingham, both of Bedford, Texas, are directors of Texas Airways, Inc.

Mauldin was advisor to the Viking Capital Group, another penny stock company. So Maudlin is associated with two penny stock companies which reflect on his character.

Although Viking is still online, the names of the directors have changed along with th purported purpose of the business.

I am going to post all of the info I have about Viking Capital from a couple of years ago because that is when it suposedly had major operations in China. See the Viking 2002 and 2003 10-Ks on the SEC website for a description of its operations.

In 2003, Viking switched from Chinese real estate to pet food. No way was Viking on the up and up. In 2002, it had $2,873,000 in revenue and $19,499,000 in losses.

The two Chinese companies named in Viking's 2002 10-K are Beijing Fei Yun Viking Enterprises Company and Wuxi Viking Garments Company, Ltd. Viking supposedly employed 336 people in China.

Here are the board of directors then:

William J. Fossen, Chairman & CEO -Mr. Fossen has served as the Chairman and CEO of the Company since 1989. He founded his own securities firm at age 26,
and now has 37 years of high level executive experience in financial
institutions. He has served as chairman, director, president, vice president, and founder of public companies for 30 years. Mr. Fossen holds a Bachelor of
Science degree. Mr. Fossen has personally established relationships with various
officers of government owned businesses and public officials in China over the last 10 years, and the Fossen family's ties with China have developed over the
past 52 years.

Matthew W. Fossen, Director, President, Chief Financial Officer, Secretary & Treasurer - Mr. Fossen has served as Chief Financial Officer, Secretary,
Treasurer and Director since 1997 and president since March 2001. He has specialized financial reporting systems experience gained from working in
various locations for Texas Instruments, including Tokyo, Nice, Dallas, and Austin. He earned his B.B.A. degree from University of Texas, Austin, and his M.B.A. from University of North Texas, where he also received the Outstanding
M.B.A. Candidate in Finance Award and the Financial Executive Institute Award.

Mary M. Pohlmeier, Director - Ms. Pohlmeier has served as a director since 1991. Ms. Pohlmeier is the Technical Project Manager and Principal Scientist for
Frito-Lay, Inc. Ms. Pohlmeier earned her M.B.A. from St. Louis University and her B.S. Degree in Food Sciences from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She
is currently pursuing her Phd. in food science and chemistry at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Robin M. Sandifer, Director - Mr. Sandifer has served as a director since 1997. Mr. Sandifer has been the owner and president of Tex American Food Marketing, Inc. since 1982. He earned his B.S. Degree in Economics from Iowa
State University.

Jiang Dong (John) Lu, Executive Director Asian/Pacific Operations, Vice President - Mr. Lu has been the executive director Asian/Pacific operations
since 1999 and a vice president since 2001. As an employee three years and then a consultant, Mr. Lu has been associated with the Company for ten years. Mr. Lu
holds a bachelor's degree from SE University, Nanjing, China and a master's degree in economics from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana.

Here are the members of the advisory board:

William T. Brown Sparta, NJ 1991

Dan H. Curlee Advisory Board Weatherford, TX 1991

Jack Hight Advisory Board West Palm Beach, FL 1991

Charles W. Smith Advisory Board West Palm Beach, FL 1992

Bruce P. Mauldin Advisory Board Bedford, TX 1994

Richard Sandifer Advisory Board Dallas, TX 1998

Here are Viking's legal advisors. Note the high-priced help for a bogus penny stock company.

Scheef & Stone -- Dallas, TX
Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld -- Dallas, Texas.
Graham, Bright & Smith -- Dallas, Texas.
Beilin & Concord -- Beijing, China.

Dan H. Curlee who is listed on the advisory board above became an Eagle director in January 2002 which was before the scandal became public. Here's his bio:

DAN H. CURLEE, joined the Company on January 21, 2002, as Chief
Operating Officer. In February, 2002, Mr. Curlee assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. Since 1993, Mr. Curlee has served as an independent strategic business consultant. From
December 1989 to January 1993, Mr. Curlee served as Chief Executive
Officer of Wilson Hill Associates, Inc. From January 1974 to December
1979, he practiced law and consulted with businesses focusing on business development, organization and management of profit and not-for-profit
corporations. He also consulted with the U.S. Department of Education on legislative, regulatory and procurement issues. Prior to 1974, Mr. Curlee served as legislative counsel to the International Brotherhood of
Teamsters and had a private law practice in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Curlee earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas, Arlington in 1963, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas, Austin in 1966.

In a March 2, 2002 8-K, Eagle anounced that it had "retained the law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., which has engaged the services of Deloitte & Touche LLP to conduct an investigation of
business practices and financial accounting controls and identify opportunities for improvement in EGBT's accounting practices".

I don't know if Deloitte & Touche ever issued any reports or looked at prior years' accounting information or bank statements.

You have to wonder what was really going on at Eagle. Between January 1, 2002 and Septamber 30, 2002, Eagle had $2 million in revenue yet it spent $8.5 million in selling, general and administrative expenses.

What did Bruce Mauldin and Dan Curlee bring to the table? They were both associated with a bogus penny stock company doing some kind of shady business in China. No the kind of people you look for when you geniunely want to clean up your operations.

Do you realize I spent the day compiling information about crooks with fancy pedigrees? For a long time, I used to wonder how some people could afford their lifestyle. Now I know - they cheat.

I am almost sorry I started this trip down Eagle memory lane. The first time around, I had high hopes that someone in charge would pay attention to me and go after some of these crooks. Bribery, stock fraud and money laundering still seem like a big deal to me.

The best I am hoping for now is that some of these lowlifes google their own names and then they will know that someone, i.e. me, knows how corrupt and rotten they really are and everyone else who googles them will know, too.

Public Embarassment - That's all you can do when your government is corrupt and no one is doing their job.

Many people try to achieve goals. Most fail. Some strive, work hard and plan for all the details yet they achieve little or nothing at all. Others strive, work hard, plan and achieve huge success. Yet there are a few individuals who do little else than take small steps and seem to achieve a great deal with what seems like effortlessness. What is the difference between these people and which one would you like to be?
Most members of the human race fall into two categories - those who live in the past and those who live in the future. Most live in the past. Many of these are the people who achieve very little in their lives and are so fearful of the future that they dare not strike out to get anything. They are the under-achievers who hang onto bad episodes in their lives and either relive them time and again or look at new situations as similar potentialities. They say things like "all men are deceivers" or "all women are interested in is money" or "I can't do it. I tried before and it didn't work so why bother!". Due to bad experiences in the past they believe that all future events will turn out the same way if they dare to go after what they want.
The other type of person lives in the future. This type tends to create more of the things they want in life. They have a vision of where they want to go and exactly how they are going to get there. They work diligently at making concrete plans and they pursue those plans with a persistent ferocious appetite for success. These people are the high achievers - The Richard Branson and Bill Gates of the world. These people have much to teach us about setting and achieving goals.
However, there is a third type of person who almost goes unnoticed. They are the person who takes life in its stride and yet achieve most of what they want. I am sure you know of such a person in your life that just seems to saunter through life and yet they always come out on top. Or a person who you hear of that has decided to open a shop. You meet them a few months later and they have three shops all doing well! So what makes these people so successful and if they aren't living in the past and aren't living in the future where are they living?
I suppose you guessed it! Whether they are consciously aware of it or not they are living in the present. It is in the 'living' present that we have our greatest power. Everything happens in the present. You live your entire life there - even if your mind does not!

By becoming more aware of the present and by 'accepting' it as it is we are much more in control of our emotions and focus. When we live in the past we are fearful of making bad choices and/or getting hurt. We do not wish to recreate the past again! When we live in the future we can also be fearful of what might happen. But even if your future vision is full of power and worthy of working towards many people can, and often do, get stuck there. By constantly reaching for bigger and better goals they fail to enjoy what they have in the moment.
If you wish to start living a life that is almost effortless begin first by living in the present. Accept your situation the way it is and then you can enjoy what you have. Your focus changes from a memory of what was or a vision of what might be to a realization of what is. You become much more empowered to then see the beauty of life and also look at where you wish to make changes. But to make changes you must first accept the situation as it is. Trying to escape from your present only increases your focus on your problems by creating resistance to what is. Accept your life as it is now. Make no judgement, just accept it and then you will be free of doubt, worry, pain and fear. For you only experience these things when you live outside the 'moment'. Hypnosis

A lot of people ask me how I like living in Costa Rica. My answer is, it was the best decision that I made in my life. I came to Costa Rica 7 years ago on a vacation and quickly fell in love with the beauty of the country and the hospitality of the people here. I couldn't wait to come back. I started coming here about 4 times per year and always had a great time and didn't want to leave. Two years ago, I decided to leave Arizona and come live in Paradise. I can not tell you how happy I am that I made that decision. Today, I wake up next to the ocean and run on the beach every morning. I eat the most delicious fruits, vegetables and fresh seafood. My stress levels are much lower than when I was living in the States and the potential here for investing, truly is unlimited. The best part of living here is showing our clients this country. I really don't feel like I have a job for the first time in my life. The joy I receive when I see the look on people's faces when they get into the warm water of the Pacific ocean is truly priceless. For those of you that have come and discovered paradise, you know what I am talking about. For those of you that are on the way, I can't wait to get you here. And to those who are thinking about Costa Rica, please do yourself a favor and come down. You will have the time of your life.

If they are 10+ years away from developing a bomb, then American aggression towards Iran is surely speeding up that timeline. Nothing like threatening somebody with nukular attack to drive them to want to acquire nukularization capabilitization themselves.costa rica fishingOf course this all assumes that Iran has not purchased bomb-grade material or a weapon from North Korea along with some missiles. Watch out if Kim starts driving around in a shiny new Hummer. What a Bush oops moment that would be if Iran nuked Israel in response to attacks from the USofA. Come to think of it, we don't have any defense treaties with Israel, do we? (aside from the Old Testament.
