The Desecration Menace

A North Carolina couple is charged with "desecrating an American flag" and winds up in jail. Note the harassment and "citizen complaints" that preceded the incident. It doesn't take much for some to feel threatened, does it? Expect more of this sort of thing as the Archie Bunker set -- angry and all Dolchstossed up -- chooses between looking inward or finding scapegoats for Iraq.

More: Via an observant reader, note the campaign poster in the bottom left of the photo. A couple of wild-eyed lefties?

CR,
did you see in the picture of the couple in their home? There's a Ron Paul sign in the backgound.

Ron Paul's candidacy is no flash in the pan, and his supporters exist beyond the depths of the internet.

Wait for the FEC 3rd quarter fund-raising report to come out.
I think the powers that be are in for a big, big surprise.

Great, now we'll get more calls for an anti-flag burning amendment

I am disappointed by laws such as this one banning desecration of the flag. I fully understand why people are offended by flag desecration. I don't really like it myself. But my idea of the United States is that it is a place where one can hold unpopular views and express those views in unpopular ways. In my view freedom of expression is more valuable than freedom from offense. These types of laws undermine that freedom and lead to episodes like this one.
