Our Man In Cairo

If you haven't read it yet, here's the link to an appropriately pressing editorial in WaPo today on our relationship with Egypt's Hosni Mubarak.

The numerous outrages committed by Mubarak and his thugs during the recent elections---including murder, the closing of selected polling stations after uncomfortably strong opposition turnouts, and finally the jailing of activist Ayman Nour on a fabricated charge---show in stark relief the perilous course we're on by continuing to support this outlaw regime. After Israel (and Iraq, obviously) the largest recipient of our tax dollars in the form of aid is Mubarak at $1.8 billion a year. Pinching this tyrant's wallet seems an appropriate place to start---but then again, that would mean doing something utterly sensible and cost-effective like using our existing leverage with allies before invading alleged "enemies." That's assuming, of course, that our real motive is spreading democracy in the Middle East.

There's nothing about realism that demands the mindless pursuit of a dead-end policy that will inevitably backfire, undercuts our efforts elsewhere, and makes us look like hypocritical fools. Can we really afford to relearn the lessons of Tehran-1979 right now?

Update: Mubarak's rampage continues.

This should come as no surprise. Democracy has nothing to do with this regime's foreign policy and it certainly has nothing to do with its domestic policy either.

Can we afford to re-learn those lessons? No. Will the administration bring us to that particular page in the lesson-book? Quite possibly.

That is a mighty big assumption, one I am not totally convinced about.

Chalmers Johnson called it "Blowback" and has a book by that name.

It seems the US never misses an opportunity to piss off the rest of the world.

And so turns the world....

Huh? Once again TCR, have you thought this through? Why in the world would we possibly want to destablize a regime that's held its death-to-Israel desire in check for 25 years now? Are you nuts?

Think man, think. EVERY U.S. foreign policy motive is dictated by how it affects Israel.

Maybe Egypt gets the monies for keeping their jabs shut over the secret CIA prisons in Europe.

TPMCafe has the following:

"The tabloid Sonntags Blick from Switzerland has published a secretly intercepted fax between Cairo and the Egyptian embassy in London. Swiss intelligence captured the fax, and commented on its (presumably Arabic) contents. The key paragraph in the Blick article, loosely translated, reads as follows:

-----------
"Captured in space and secretly sent from a satellite down to earth, the message was sent... on 10 November at 20:24. It is a fax that was exchanged between the Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit (63) in Cairo and his ambassador in London. Swiss intelligence put the following title above the document: "The Egyptians possess sources, that confirm the existence of American secret prisons." "

How to start a debt settlement program?
You can do it yourself by contacting your creditors directly. If you are not comfortable in dealing with them, contact Xyourdebt.com to represent you against your creditors. The settlement company will create a trust account for you. Every month you will save a certain amount of money in that trust account. The maximum amount that you can deposit in your trust account depends on your disposable income (monthly income and monthly expenditure = disposable income).
The settlement company then negotiates with your creditors for a reduced and affordable amount. An efficient settlement company can reduce the payable amount to 40% - 60% of your original amount.
It is true that creditors and collection agencies often deny negotiating with consumers. They prefer to create pressure on the consumer to collect more money. If they deny coming to any agreement, contact a reputed settlement company to make it happen. There are a couple of debt settlement firms in USA that can make you debt free by working on your behalf. The settlement companies or firms have the experience and know very well how to deal with creditors and collection agencies.
