I think this speaks to the unrealistic view many of us have of this conflict. These men are cave-bound and "on the run" only in our government's assertions. They would like us to think that the people who attacked us are isolated lunatics, unfit for anything but death. But they are actually well funded, well protected, and well organized. But it's harder to trivialize your enemy when they are seen that way. More importantly, it's harder to delegitimize them. And it is better that they are delegitimized. Otherwise we as a country would have to come to terms with the real reasons we were attacked. That would require real introspection and a realignment of our foreign policy methods and goals, as well as actually listening to what our enemy has to say (for the sake of understanding if nothing else). Or we can just think they are a bunch of cave-dwelling savages and settle back into our moral superiority, which makes us feel better anyway.
Don't recall where I saw it, might have been on Daily Show, but they showed an old and current picture of al-Zarqawi, and the guy got fatter and the same comment you made was made about him.
Notice the Star of David on the background drapes? What to you think the relevence is?
