Those Other Attacks

It's become a boilerplate boast: "There have been no attacks on American soil since 9/11." Shunted down the memory hole, I guess, are the anthrax attacks in 2001 that killed five people and cost the economy billions in losses. Remember the interesting choice of targets -- the media and two senior Democratic Senators? Remember those notes (here, and here) that now, with the benefit of five years' perspective, look like a ludicrous attempt to imitate the way someone for whom Arabic was the native language might write English? And remember the easy prewar emphasis on the urgent threat posed by Saddam's "anthrax stockpiles," along with breathless speculation by the usual suspects that Saddam was responsible for the 2001 anthrax mailings?

According to this report, the FBI says the case has gone "so cold" that it may be put in the inactive files. She disagrees, and she's fighting in court.

Yes, wasn't the anthrax attacks quite the 'coincidence'.

Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say it was carefully planned to execute in conjunction with a terrorist attack to throw the American public into chaos and fear.

Not to mention, seeing who the targets were, a warning shot to their vulnerability.

Lets see...targets, politicians and media...actual victims...POSTAL WORKERS. It would be nice if you folks would remember who actually died from the anthrax. But what the hell. While dogs searched the Capital Building, workers in Postal Facilities where the envelopes were processed contined to work. Even after a couple died Postal Bosses didn't want to shut the buildings down.

Yes. Very convenient.

Combined that with the 9/11 widows having to fight to get an independent commission to find out what happened on 9/11 and how to improve National Security, one would think there was a cover-up. It would be cathartic and healing to the country to find them and bring them to justice.

"There have been no attacks on American soil since 9/11." This statement is very naive, simple-minded and anyone that says it cares more about their political party than our country. They just don't get it, do they. The whole point of terrorism is the eliminate of surprise. As Bush says, this is hard. If the terrorists had a timetable it would be easy.

I think those who control Washington are capable of doing great harm without conscience and without regret. Included in that is Karl Rove, his henchmen, and over the edge devout "followers".

Seems like only yesterday Bush and Rumsfeld said they were going reduce troops.

U.S. won't reduce force in Iraq this year

Then why the Enquirer and not Pravda in Paradise (i.e. Palm Beach Post)?

Then why the Enquirer..

Here's a guess: because they had the goods on how 9/11 was managed and executed flawlessly within U.S. airspace?

You might be onto something:

Remember the Anthrax Investigation?

"Five years after the anthrax attacks that killed five people, the FBI is now convinced that the lethal powder sent to the Senate was far less sophisticated than originally believed, widening the pool of possible suspects in a frustratingly slow investigation."

"No attacks on American soil" is incorrect. As is pointed out, we had the anthrax, though I actually think it was either a set up or some looney like the folks who used to screw with Tylenol bottles in the '70's. We had snipers in DC/Northern VA-head sniper professing to be muslim and in sympathy with them. Also, we have had at least one embassy attacked...is not an embassy considered to be the soil of the nation who owns it?

Why the heck should they attack us over here on the continental US when we are so obligingly sending them our trained soldiers to be slaughtered over there? Take out our soldiers, a few civilian contractors, recruit a few more fellows for the suicide squads...they are too busy to be planning anything lare scale. If a caterer suddenly delivers a 5 course meal for 10 to your house for free, do you worry about planning dinner for your family of 4for the next couple days?
