This Saturday In Washington....
If I didn't have an important, long-planned family obligation this weekend, I'd probably make the trip to DC for this. I hope those readers so inclined will do so (and feel free to send me photos to post). I'm sure there will be some fringe interests and anti-globalization nuttiness to it. But if the larger cause is important enough, you walk with the protesters you have, not the ones you want. Besides, I don't think we'll be getting many rallies organized around the specific platform of pro-redeployment, pro-dialogue/anti-wider war with Iran, anti-escalation, anti-mission creep, anti-incompetence, and anti-Joe Lieberman.
If readers learn of any similar events in the future, and particularly in New York, please let me know.

I remember going to Washington four years ago to protest the coming war.
When the march was taunted by some frat boys, I wished I had a sign that read, "MBAs for Peace."
As a fellow MBA blogger, I wonder if maybe we could start something here.
Bankers for Peace, here.
As a former frat boy, I say "bring 'em on."

Wow, you sound more and more like Rumsfeld all the time, since he said "you go to war with the army you have, not the one you wish you had" and was roundly criticised for it.
Interesting.
The folks at the Obsidian Wings blog are talking about getting together for brunch, prior to the demo.
I'm pretty cynical about street protests myself, but the hosts of some blogs that I enjoy (like this one) are urging their readers to show up at this event. And I'm thinking, maybe it COULD help nudge some wavering congresscritters toward sanity....

if the right of centre are even prepared to attend a demonstration, probably means the government is ripe for being overthrown and deserve it...saudis helping keep oil price in check...should be ok with iran for a bit...

It's called sarcasm.
Let's just hope we don't have another Kent State on our hands.

About 100-125 people protested in Juneau, Alaska. I took pictures.
I was at the protest on Saturday. It was a really good experience, to be with people who truly believe in something and are willing to stand up for it. While I think conversations about the war, and blogs such as this one, are important, I have become tired of complaining about the war and the Bush administration, while not actually doing anything about it. There were certainly groups there with ulterior motives, such as the Communists I ended up sitting next to on the bus, who handed out pro-Communist flyers instead of marching. But overall, it was a good mix of people, everyone from housewives with their children, to WWII, Iraq, and Vietnam vets, to first-time protesters such as myself.
United for Peace, who organized the event, is planning a another protest March 17th, at the Pentagon.
Good design!
