The thought of after-lecture beers with Jonah and the College Republicans just made me spew my Cheerios. He's a fraud and so are all other pro-war morons who have never bothered to volunteer for military service. Other priorities, you know.
And the Jesus said, "Blessed are the war-mongers, for they will be called the children of God. . . "
Or at least that's what the warmongers will self-righteously call themselves. And they will call whomever calls them out on this, or anyone who advocates for peace and diplomacy unpatriotic and not one of God's children.
Maybe Jesus really did say "blessed are the cheese-makers. . ." because so many people, with their actions, seem to get the original verse wrong.
What a jackass Jonah Goldberg is! I am so sick of these smug "intellectuals" who see a few Rambo movies and think they know what war is about. I would love to send him into a war zone and see how his white-bread ass holds up.
There's actually a Web-site (protestwarrior.com) where some of these pro-war college activists protest peace gatherings. Unfortunately, there's no link to any of our armed forces where these brave souls can sign-up and do some actual fighting. I guess fighting those strawmen is enough exertion for these patriots.
On the info page linked to in the post the discussion is said to be about, "the costs, necessities, consequences, and benefits of war." It makes it sound as if all wars are equivalent: equally costly, necessary, consequential and beneficial.
Did Goldberg's mama sign him up for this gig?

I remember the Umass Republicans being a particularly vile basket of cumrags back in the mid-80s. They're probably even more wonderful now.
That's Col. Goldberg, right?
Xoverboard had a pithy summation [too lazy to look up the original entry], particularly discussing how these militaristic pontificators rarely seem to link to recruitment websites:
"These people don't want to fight the war, they want to fight the people who want the war to stop"
Protest warriors indeed...
There's some coverage on this over at Operation Yellow Elephant, the web site dedicated to asking why the people supporting the war aren't going or sending their own kids.
In searching for the prior link, I bumped into the following story. As low as this administration has been over and over, this story about a woman drugged and raped by multiple KBR employees makes me want to vomit. Although the base is a bit satirical, be sure to follow the link trails for more details.
The action taken by the State Dept. truly shows that the GOP has cast aside any last vestige of morality.
On the bright side, Jonah appears to have elevated his discourse to self-mockery.
It's not Rambo movies they have watched. they've all read 'Starship Troopers'. Forget the movie, read the book (it's only 250 pages or so, take you an afternoon) and then think about what you've been hearing from the right for the last 6-7 years.
Talk about reading the tea leaves. Heinlen drove this one out of the park...
Jonah Goldberg... the man who's publicly proud of having "gotten [his] start in the media" by retailing the salacious details his mommy persuaded Linda Tripp to record, probably not legally, during her heart-to-heart chats with Monica Lewinsky. The man whose self-professed laziness and unwillingness to do even a simple Google search in support of his wilder flights of journalistic phantasy led to the nickname "Doughy Pantload". If this is what passes as a "rising star... of modern Conservatism", Bill Buckley should've slit his wrists in a warm bath by now.
I try to have a "Conservative Intellectual Movement" at least twice a day.
Keeps me feeling peppy, and prepared to talk about the glories of war at a moment's notice.
Seems like Jonah and "Liberal Fascism" have hit quite a nerve amongst the "Make America Lose" crowd that favors this site.
