A Special Type Of Ally

Andrew Sullivan reminds us of the nature of the threat posed by radical Islam:
"Man: All together now: Death to America! Death to Israel!

Crowd: Death to America! Death to Israel! Death to America! Death to Israel! Death to America! Death to Israel! Death to America! Death to Israel!

Speaker: Today, the impure world Zionism, in the modern Age of ignorance, has emerged with the same (polytheistic) ideology, but with new methods. It wants to take over the fields of economy, of culture, and politics, as well as the military, throughout the world.

We, the pilgrims who have come to the house of God, condemn the plots and the measures taken by the international Zionism -- the deceitful Satan who spreads heresy, polytheism, and idolatry, enslaving human beings with a new method. It abuses the divine religion of Moses. It takes Satanic measures, and arouses the world's hatred towards this divine religion, and its true followers. We denounce these criminal acts. We call upon the world of Islam and the free peoples to take significant measures to thwart the Satanic policy of this camp.

Crowd: Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar." - a mullah from an Islamo-fascist rally in Mecca. This is the religion fueling global terror. Its pathological anti-Semitism is indistinguishable in most respects from Hitler's.
As Andrew notes, this is happening on Saudi soil right now. We don't have to draw comparisons to madmen from the previous century; the type of Islam that cultivates this hatred stands on its own. It exists openly, today, within the borders of one of our allies.

So why is Saudi Arabia exempt from U.N. nuclear inspections? Last year the Saudis signed the IAEA's loophole-laden Small Quantities Protocol, which excuses them from inspections and allows for the possession of up to 10 tons of natural uranium or 20 tons of depleted uranium, and 2.2 pounds of plutonium without reporting it to anyone. This, despite clear evidence over many years of the Kingdom's interest in developing a nuclear capability, and the regime's known links to Pakistan's A.Q. Khan. This is the same culture that encourages the above rhetoric, gave rise to Osama Bin Laden, and is ruled by a corrupt and doddering family that one day will fall. And---with our blessing---it is also exempt from any international nuclear monitoring whatsoever, and not subject to the same standard we applied to Saddam Hussein and we're currently applying to Iran.

Why? Perhaps because of an addendum to The Realist's Handy Reference Guide---next to the chapter about our support of Hosni Mubarak, no doubt---that gives special dispensation for our stubborn desire to look like hypocritical chumps?

Remember the US's original acronym for the Iraqi invasion...O.peration I.raqi Li.beration (quickly changed to Operation Iraqi Freedom).

That kind of says it all.

What a sad state we are in, when we cannot even discuss -- hell, not so much as whisper about! -- the notion that one way to counter this Islamic hatred of us is by taking a look at our policies that just might "...take over the fields of economy, of culture, and politics, as well as the military, throughout the world."

Might that not be an avenue worth at least exploring and debating?

Why is Saudi Arabia exempt? Does anyone honestly think the Bush's are going to do anything which would disrupt the close relationship they have with the saudi royal family, or the Bin Laden family, for that matter?

Anyone who thinks we got cosy with the Suadis under the Bush's does not pay attention to American politics. If the US dedicated itself to systematically deposing every leader in the middle east at one time it would not be pretty. The groups vying to take power in Egypt and in Saudi Arabia are not better options they are more fundamental not less. To imply that Muslim Brotherhood (as TCR has done) should be allowed to participate in the Egyptian government is laughable. These guys are extremists who have already assasinated political leaders.

'Why is Saudi Arabia exempt?'

Because they paid the corrupt Republican party off.

Cunningham, Delay, Hastert, Frist, throw in Jack Abramoff and 35,000 lobbyist today (up from 16,000 in 2000), and any thing is for sale. Welcome to the culture of corruption and the Republican party of today :-( This isn't our parents Republican party

Whoa, Jones! You do that and the next thing you know, people are gonna be askin' questions like "Exactly what compelling American interest is served by our slavish support of Israel?" And that's just crazy talk, man.

Roy, you are right about that, but the solution cannot be supporting tyrants we prefer but taking out tyrants like Saddam who ceased to be useful.

The only solution is a radical one. America takes the high road all the time, on every issue. Burn down Abu Ghraib and Gitmo, clean up the School of the Americas. With one exception, genocide, we keep out of other countries, OUT completely.

We should only rely on our superior Constitution and Bill of Rights (if they can survive the new fascist courts) humanitarian relief and become what we can be: the beacon of hope and example of a government that works for all.

But we have to be squeaky clean to do this without challenge. Radical groups would have NO evidence and NO reason to rally anyone against us.

I don't think the propaganda against jews in the middle east started with hitler. I don't have any elaborate proof that it didn't, but i have a story that makes it plausible to me that it started earlier.

My (former) iranian housemate told me this story. There was a village in iran (I had the impression it was the village he grew up in but the story might still be an urban legend). Most of the villagers made their living by cutting and polishing jewelry. Once a year someone would bring in uncut stones and they would bid on them. Then they would spend the year turning their stones into end-product gemstones they would sell, and with the money they could support themselves for a year and buy next year's stones.

One year a stranger appeared at the auction. He had a lot of money. The auction started, and on the first stone the first bid was 700 rial. The stranger said, "I bid 7000 rial." And it went that way with every stone, he bid more than anyone else could. After the auction nobody had any stones to work with. And the stranger said, "Anybody who wants to, show me an example of your work and I will offer you a wage to work on my stones." They had no choice so they did as he said, they accepted his low wages. They lived as before but before they had enough money and now they were poor. And before that, they were free.

And now his tone changed. "And the man who did that to him -- " He hissed. "That man was a *jew*."

My first thought about this story came from my undergraduate economics class. There was a market inflexibility here. If the guy who sold the stones would just take his profits and quick buy more stones and bring them back to sell ... the stranger would have to keep paying high prices over and over for the chance to corner that market. As soon as he ran out the villagers would buy their stones and get to work.

But my second thought was, suppose you are doing something that hurts people. A scam, or a market destruction or whatever. You're going to empoverish innocent people. And when they see what you're doing, isn't it an obvious thing for them to bring in a religious leader to plead with you to play nice? An imam, a christian priest, whatever the local religion. And so you have this religious leader talking to you, ready to sermonise, to kneel at your feet and beg for mercy for his people, to curse you to the depths of hell for your sins -- and what easier way is there to get rid of him than simply say "I am a jew.". Surely this has been going on since there were christians and muslims. Any stranger who doesn't want to listen to moral platitudes and pleas and curses, can push them away with four little words. He doesn't need to be jewish, he only needs to be someone that the victims don't know isn't jewish.

Why would we suppose this wasn't happening long before Hitler?

This story is no proof at all, but it's certainly suggestive to me. For at least 2000 years people have had the occasional chance to blame their own evil deeds on judaism. Hitler worked with a weapon that was already sharpened for him.

The anti-Semitism expressed in the middle east is directly descended from Hitler, who basically waged a propaganda campaign against Jews in the region.

Are you saying that Hitler waged an anti-semitic propaganda campaign in the mideast? That makes no sense. Hitler made Israel possible, but I don't think Hitler has anything directly to do with the Palestinians beef against Israel. I think getting run off their ancestral lands and herded onto reservations is enough to explain their anger.

You will need plenty of patience to groom and style your pets if you plan to do it on a regular basis, especially if they do not like this type of treatment. You will be able find answers to most of your questions on pet grooming simply by doing a search online for information and tips. A grooming school or professional association training is the only thing required to become a pet groomer, therefore there is no government agency regulations involved. Buying equipment for your pet grooming shop it is a good idea to do several months before your training classes end. You must groom your pet if for some reason it is no longer able to groom itself, or it chooses not to do it.
