Five
With the year coming to an end, that's the total number of days in 2007 on which no U.S. troops have been killed in Iraq (data here).
Think anyone brought this up between courses at the dinner?

More ghastly, with this fact for context, is the "the war is over and we won" meme spreading on Instapundit-style blogs. See Don Surber's idiotic thing, for example, if you have a strong stomach and feel like googling it up. The surge worked! Iraq is at peace! (The libruhl news media is just making up that there's still violence there, cuz of how they have Bush Derangement Syndrome.)
Assholes dancing in a graveyard.
Success is now defined by the Bush apologists as getting violence levels back to where they were 3 years into the war. They're so proud that we've years of ethnic cleansing and the forced partitioning of Baghdad has brought us back to where we were in 2006. Whoopee!
And notice how that whole thing of political benchmarks and "as the Iraqis stand up..." have been dropped like a bag full of crap. Eventually they'll be able to set the standard of "success" so low that it can be met.
Think about this:
My parents were able to survive the Nazi times, but Germany paid a heavy price.
We will survive Bush times, but the price will also be heavy. If we continue in this way we will end up with the same type of country, that Germany had from 1933 - 1945.
I guess that should make the GOP and all these bushies VERY HAPPY, as that seems to be what they have been working to. And maybe the evengalist will also get what they want a theocracy where only one religion is tolerated!
All we need then are religious goon squads to enforce their religous dictates aka the Talibans and the transformation of America will be complete.
